POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Analyst, Special Waste, with limited direction and a thorough understanding of regulations, works closely with internal and external customers to assure Republic Services facilities remain in compliance with waste acceptance regulations and company standards. The Senior Analyst, Special Waste provides work direction and acts as a resource to peers within the department and works closely with corporate office and field coordinators to ensure customer service commitments are met. The Senior Analyst, Special Waste takes a lead technical role in providing regulatory support and the preparation and analysis of problematic waste streams for the Engineering and Environmental Compliance Department.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides oversight of process controls and training for Enhanced Asset Protection waste approvals program.

  • Assists the Manager, Special Waste with implementation, training and facilitation of initiatives and development of productivity goals and monitor and report on the effectiveness of processes.

  • Conducts working sessions with extended field team members/subject matter experts to address gaps/open items in product creation.

  • Keeps stakeholders and customers across the organization to informed regarding program status and updates as directed.

  • Assures that Republic Services facilities do not accept waste that is defined as hazardous by Federal, State, or local regulations, outside of the scope of the site’s operating permit or poses a threat to human health or the environment.

  • Performs technical reviews of environmental data, including customer-initiated Generator Waste Profile Sheets.

  • Responds to internal requests for reports and investigations on profiled waste.

  • Keeps current on Federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to hazardous waste.

  • Serves as a senior point of contact for Special Waste Analysts seeking technical guidance.

  • Provides training and other support to sales and operations personnel and customers.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive solid waste, industrial, and/or hazardous waste regulations experience.

  • Knowledge of Environmental Regulations.

  • Working knowledge of chemical compounds and strong knowledge of chemistry.

  • Ability to analyze environmental laboratory data and compare data to Federal, State, and/or permitted waste acceptance standards.

  • Knowledge of state and local special waste regulations

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Balance of technical knowledge and business acumen.

  • Grasps concepts quickly, adheres to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise.

  • Maintains a positive outlook and works well in a team-oriented environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years of experience in solid waste, hazardous waste, environmental laboratory data, or other appropriate environmental field.
