The U.S. Consumer Services and Enterprise Digital & Data Technology Team (USCSDT) brings together foundational strategic technology capabilities in digital experience engineering (Mobile and Web), AI/ML, marketing technology, enterprise communications, travel and lifestyle, and automation, grounded in our data technology model that prioritizes data governance. It employs a ground-breaking focus with development responsibilities for customer-facing capabilities that deepen and expand digital engagement, as well as core technical capabilities that cut across business lines and customer segments.

You will be part of the Global Web Engineering team whose mission is to be essential in our Customers’ digital lives by providing value, convenience, and delight wherever they are. Your primary responsibilities will be to lead a team of engineers building awesome digital web products used by tens of millions of American Express Customers worldwide. You should enjoy solving complex technical problems and have experience creating modern, scalable, customer-facing web applications. A strong product mindset to influence and drive the product roadmap and excellent delivery are key attributes for this role. You will work in a fast-paced environment with the stability of working for a Fortune 100 company.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and work with a team of highly accomplished engineers to build and deliver customer-centric roadmap.

  • Responsible to build the new features and iterate on existing products using the latest software development methodologies and frameworks to ensure scalability and reliability.

  • Work with product managers to prioritise features for new products based on customer needs; and enable the web product vision for the company and manage a list of requirements based on industry trends and new technologies.

  • Mentor and nurture talent and promote a culture of togetherness, partnership, and continuous team improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics.

  • Responsible for the people management of a co-located and remote engineering teams.

  • Recruit and hire outstanding and diverse web talent from the industry.

  • Influence up/down/across and promote modern software engineering principles!

  • Collaborate with product and business and technology teams to motivate change required to implement product roadmaps and support the team in technical issue resolution.

  • Think out of the box and bring an external engineering expertise and view. Desire to learn new technologies, ability to enable business capabilities through innovation and increase efficiency in crafting and delivering new capabilities with our global colleagues.

  • Engage in 1-on-1 conversations with team members for mentorship and career development planning.

  • Collaborate within and across business units to prioritize, plan, and implement the development schedule for major product releases

Minimum Qualification

  • Experience being a people leader, coaching, mentoring and guiding for highly talented technical teams.

  • Proven experience hiring, retaining, and leading high-caliber engineering talent.

  • Understanding of web UI technologies and frameworks such as React and Angular.

  • Experience building customer-facing products with performing, availability and high scalability and bringing in new technologies based on current industry standards.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to cater to a diverse audience: executive collaborator, customer, partner, engineering.

  • Experience leading and building software engineering teams designing and building efficient software products in a fast-paced, sophisticated and dynamic software development environment. Hands-on experience architecting and building modern REST APIs.

  • Experience with Agile, Scrum or other rapid application development methodologies is required

  • Commitment to drive a culture of accountability and ownership to empower teams and motivate change!.

  • Experience leading individual contributors and providing career direction, coaching, and building development plans.

  • Experience working in a distributed team model and collaborating with remote team members.

  • BS or MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other engineering disciplines.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
