Microsoft Corporation Content Lead, Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) Sustainability in Phoenix, Arizona

Microsoft’s Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) organization is responsible for the construction and management of the data center infrastructure underlying this growth. Due to this explosive growth, there are increasing demands for transparency as to the environmental impact of Cloud and AI operations worldwide. Microsoft has committed to becoming Carbon Negative, Water Positive, and Zero Waste by 2030, and is seeking a Content Lead, Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) Sustainability , to drive the CO+I organization’s content strategy around progress against these commitments.

Reporting into the CO+I Sustainability team within the Cloud Infrastructure Solutions and Services function, this role will be accountable to ensure that the CO+I organization is able to proactively generate holistic sustainability content for use internally and externally. As a Content Lead, you will partner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Communications, Public Relations (PR), as well as other key stakeholders like corporate sustainability and marketing, to ensure that CO+I is able to tell a compelling and complete sustainability narrative. This role is not a traditional marketing, communications, or PR role; rather, you will serve as a Content Lead and resident expert on sustainability narrative to enable these roles to tell CO+I’s sustainability story with confidence, demonstrate leadership, and build process to ensure content alignment and consensus as we do so.

In addition, this role will collaborate across the organization to help enable proactive partnership with key external bodies – such as independent publications, conference owners, and analyst groups - who can amplify CO+I’s sustainability message.

  • This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

  • Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates are required to ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

  • This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead across CO+I and the broader organization in setting content strategy for the CO+I sustainability narrative across our investments and progress to our Carbon Negative, Water Positive, Zero Waste, and Ecosystems goals.

  • Partner closely with Communications, Public Relations (PR), Corporate, and business executives in informingand enabling an engagement strategy focused on demonstrating thought leadership for Cloud and AI Sustainability.

  • Identify and source proactive thought leadership sustainability content opportunities to be “one step ahead” of narrative needs for CO+I and the company.

  • Build process and gain alignment across the organization to enable a proactive narrative, advocacy, and engagement strategy via timely and relevant content.

  • Contribute to central repository of up-to-date sustainability content from across the organization andestablish a R hythm of B usiness to refresh content aligned to key internal and external milestones.

  • Manage internal advocacy strategy via team to enhance CO+I employee understanding and appreciation for progress against sustainability commitments.

  • Empower CO+I and CELA ES executives to tell a cohesive, compelling, and consistent narrative on Cloud Sustainability.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 3+ years experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related area

  • OR 5+ years experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related area.

  • 3+ years experience in Marketing, PR, or Communications in a technical environment.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related area.In-house counsel experience.

  • 3+ years experience managing a corporate social responsibility or related program.

  • 3+ years of people or team management experience.

  • 3+ years experience working in or with a large, matrixed organization.

Corporate Social Responsibility M4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $101,200 - $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $130,000 - $213,200 per year.
