DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Michael Baker International is seeking a Senior Architect to join the team in our Philadelphia, PA office. The successful candidate will be responsible for overall management and direction of several design and construction rail and transit projects across the five-county area for our transportation agency client. The position will be partially located within the client's offices and report directly to the client's senior level managers as well as MBI Architectural Department Lead. The Senior Architect researches and prepares planning documents, schematic design concepts and develops contract documents for architectural projects and administers construction-phase services for building projects. This role will be based on-site and in the client office 2 - 3 days a week in Centre City, Philadelphia.

RESPONSIBILITIES Architectural: * Engages in and directs activities associated with planning, design, and construction documents including code analysis documents, studies, reports, sketches, schematic drawings, renderings, specifications, final contract documents, and as-built drawings. * Along with the project manager and other design professional, communicates with clients to establish project scope of work, building program needs, design fees, project schedule and budgets. * Performs architectural design of projects from conceptual stage to construction documentation. * Applies industry knowledge of architectural customs, building codes, practices and procedures to solve design challenges. * Assists clients with predesign activities and programming. * Develops conceptual design including presentation materials in short timeframe to assist contractor with pricing procurement during proposal stages. * Leads coordination efforts of all engaged engineering disciplines. * Utilizes integrated approach to building design with focus on sustainable solutions. * Manages production team to develop scale drawings, specifications and other contract documents for building construction. * Administers construction contracts and conducts periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with issued for construction documents. * Prepares project designs and plans using computer assisted design software and equipment. * Performs Quality Control Reviews. * Prefer working knowledge of current industry software including Revit and BIM.

Client management: * Assist with capital projects in the design or construction phase for transportation clients including rail and transit agencies. * Evaluate and review design documents, design work plans, existing conditions, contract documents, work plans, schedules, phasing plans submitted by outside designers and contractors. * Verify appropriate project documentation, review and monitor design progress and construction progress. * Prepare complex correspondence. * Lead regular project progress meetings with designers, contractors, and client. * Oversee work in progress to ensure design meets client expectations and construction workmanship, conforms with specifications and plans, adherence to schedule. * Prepare or reviews reports on progress, budgets, design reviews, materials used and costs, and adjustments to work schedules. * Provide management, field engineering, technical advisement for issues related to the design and construction of the assigned project. * Coordinate work with designers, contractors and owners, other government agencies as might be required. * Manage project documentation such as design review documents, scope of work, cost estimates, schedules, RFIs, Submittals, Site Specific Work Plans, Phasing Plans, Contractor Staging Plans, Quality Control Documents, PCOs, COs, etc. * Support client in development of change order scopes of work and / or cost estimates for design and construction work. * Verify construction activities within federal, state, a d local rules and regulations. * Work within the client's offices reporting to the Senior Program Manager and work closely with the client's operations to successfully delivery design and construction.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS * Bachelor's degree in Architecture * 10+ years of design or construction experience with rail and transit or other transportation agencies. * P.E. License Required (PA or NJ preferred) * Aptitude for communicating with owner / client staff, designers, contractors, or outside agencies. * Must have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of technical specialists, clients, and public officials. * Review, monitor, and understand engineering design and operational information, and to present and review this information with staff, management, and clients. * Familiarity and experience with railroad and transit design specifications and requirements. * Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential for success in this role. * Possess a passion for Michael Baker International's mission and a readiness to Make a Difference.

COMPENSATION The approximate compensation range for this position is $110,000 to $125,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
