Job Title: Revenue Cycle Specialist

Department: Emergency Department

Entity: CPUP

Location: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania - 3400 Spruce St / WFH

Hours: full time hybrid, 8:00am-4:30pm M-F

Summary:

  • The Revenue Cycle Specialist (RCS) provides billing knowledge, expertise and oversight in support of the department's effort to effectively manage its revenue cycle and ensure expedient claims processing and payment for services. Reporting to the Revenue Cycle Manager, the position performs a variety of functions including working the department work queues, resolving edits, rejections and department specific billing inquiries. The RCS will troubleshoot issues identified related revenue cycle workflows and provide data analytics as necessary.

  • This is a hybrid in office, work from home position.

Responsibilities:

  • Works all charge/revenue related work queues to ensure resolution of accounts within the designated benchmark and escalates to manager as appropriate.

  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to report and escalate front, middle, and back-end analytics.

  • Meets regularly with Manager to review status of work queues, A/R, special projects, and problematic or unusual accounts.

  • Completes charge entry responsibilities.

  • Processes charge correction files and appends necessary data.

  • Reports, investigates, and assists in resolution of coding, billing and A/R issues identified through continuous monitoring of reports and work queues related to Emergency Medicine, Observation Medicine, Hyperbarics and Wound Center.

  • Participates in Entity and Department wide initiatives for achieving target metrics.

  • Responds to questions, requests, and support calls, efficiently and professionally, within established timeframes.

  • Works effectively to meet project and assignment deadlines.

  • Assists in orienting new employees, if/as needed.

  • Attends staff meetings and continuing education in-service training as directed by Manager.

  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to medical records and corporate documents (HIPAA, JCAHO, etc.).

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required) AND 3+ years Healthcare or Revenue cycle experience.

  • OR Bachelor's Degree AND 1+ years Healthcare or Revenue cycle experience.

  • CPC (AAPC), CCS (AHIMA), or CCA (AHIMA) preferred.

  • General working knowledge/previous exposure of healthcare environments and auditing concepts, medical billing/operations, medical terminology and clinical documentation.
