A Brief Overview

The Senior Epic Cogito Palette Admin is part of a team responsible for the configuration, operation, availability, upgrade, and use of the Epic Cogito user facing reporting and analytics tools deployed by Stanford Health Care (SHC). This includes SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench (RWB) with SQL, Epic Metrics, and Radar Dashboards. The initial focus will be on accelerating SlicerDicer data model deployments and driving adoption of Epic SlicerDicer amongst the user community. In addition, this role will be involved in operational improvement projects, infrastructure deployment and upgrade projects, and development of BI solutions utilizing SHC tools (i.e., being a part-time Business Intelligence Developer as needed).

What you will do

  • Develop/Customize Cogito solutions (i.e., SlicerDicer filters and sessions, Epic metrics, Reporting Workbench with SQL, Radar components, etc.) as assigned.

  • Provide user support/coaching/training related to Cogito usage.

  • Define and deploy standards and common processes for developers and users of Cogito tools. Monitor for compliance and resolve non-compliant solutions with appropriate stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with Epic application teams on configurations, user security, customizations, etc. to ensure effective implementation and adoption of Cogito solutions by users.

  • Collaborate with Clarity/Caboodle administrators to load, validate and customize the Caboodle data models/tables and coordinate Epic upgrades.

  • Identify improvements to operational processes and lead/conduct projects to implement such improvements, applying project management skills, team/user communications, etc.

  • Address end user data questions, discrepancies and data validation.

  • Conduct peer review and quality control sessions for new Cogito build.

  • Monitor production usage, uptime, and performance. Troubleshoot and initiate corrective action as needed to sustain target performance levels of Epic Cogito solutions.

  • Utilize Data Courier to promote Cogito components across Epic environments consistent with SHC release management processes.

  • Review vendor release notes and plan/conduct upgrades accordingly in conjunction with overall Epic upgrade schedule and processes.

  • Coordinate with Infrastructure team on maintenance of hardware, upgrades, database administration/tuning, etc. of the Cogito Environment.

  • Manage work queue of user requests and troubleshoot incidents for supported solutions within Service Management application.

  • Understand and apply HIPAA standards and regulations to all areas of work.

Education Qualifications

  • BS/BA in information or business-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience with design and development of BI solutions and/or administration of BI tools.

  • Two (2) years of experience administering Epic SlicerDicer, including creation and management of custom filters, sessions, etc

  • Five (5) years healthcare experience in a technical, clinical or revenue cycle operations role working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and data.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience delivering high quality reporting and analytics solutions that meet user requirements with minimal on-going maintenance and a low volume of production incidents (production failures, help desk calls, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, and perform root cause analysis of, production incidents and established countermeasures to improve supported applications.

  • Two (2)+ years of experience with SQL in an Oracle and/or SQL Server (preferred) environment. Proficient with complex SQL (multi joins, subqueries, unions) and creation of database objects (tables, views, materialized views, etc.).

  • Ability to work without direct daily supervision based on general direction provided by a superior, provide guidance to peers, and make recommendations to supervisors on best path forward. Provide regular updates to supervisor on pending tasks, pain points, and potential roadblocks.

  • History of proactive interactions to senior management of the organization (Directors and VP’s).

  • Demonstrated ability for completing multiple complex projects.

  • Actively seeks and embraces coaching and mentoring from team members and contributes to the success and development of the team through effective partnering.

  • Contributes to realization of SHC's vision. Understands how their work supports the vision and proposes better ways to achieve the vision. Articulates these ideas in a manner that builds consensus and influences decision making at the Director level.

  • Demonstrates expertise in multiple functional and/or technical domains and develops some cross-functional knowledge and skill outside scope of area of responsibility.

  • Ability to anticipate functional, design, or technical problems with standard recurring work or projects and negotiates a viable alternative before an issue manifests itself in production operations or development. Considers the "big picture" and develops solutions that address multiple problems or needs as well as future conditions/events.

  • Ability to independently partner with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Competent utilizing Lean concepts including visibility walls, problem solving A3’s, and Gemba rounding principles. Utilizes active daily management techniques.

  • Successfully presents moderately complex ideas and information to a variety of audiences, including senior managers and industry groups. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proficient with, and contributes to, best practices and common processes for developing solutions with, and/or administering, multiple standard SHC tools.

  • Experience and expertise with Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence concepts, best practices, and market leading vendors.

  • Demonstrated expertise developing complex Reporting solitons utilizing at least one of the SHC standard tools (Epic Cogito, SAP BusinessObjects, Crystal Reports, QlikView, Tableau).

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $62.69 - $83.07 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
