Day - 08 Hour (United States of America)

The Stanford Medicine Technology and Digital Solutions team was formed to provide the Stanford Medicine community with the most innovative technology services as efficiently as possible. Led by Michael Pfeffer, CIO and Michael Halaas, Chief Operating Officer and Associate Dean in the School of Medicine, the unified organization brings together the best of the School of Medicine and Stanford Health Care IT to enable new opportunities for groundbreaking work and compassionate care. Together, the Technology and Digital Solutions team will work to break down historic organizational barriers to enable even greater collaboration across Stanford Medicine hospital and clinics, and the entire University.

A Brief Overview

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines using hosted cloud-based services in Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure. This position is part of the cloud platforms team and works with solution architects and management to ensure customer requirements are met in a timely and efficient manner. As we are a medical institution, security, data integrity, and system availability are essential. Our cloud workloads vary from medical research to internal applications and services.

What you will do

  • Maintain close contact with customers to address support requests for the platforms in your care to maintain agreed upon SLAs.

  • Work with solution architects to implement cloud applications and services based on customer requirements.

  • Act as an escalation for support administrators troubleshooting complex workflows.

  • Maintain secure environments in accordance with established guidelines and practices maintaining the model of least privileged access.

  • Maintain security compliance through system and application patching as required.

  • Implement and maintain application and pipeline performance/health monitoring for cloud infrastructure-based solutions.

  • Create, maintain, and share metrics and reporting data for management review and planning. Splunk integration experience a plus.

  • Implement and maintain standards for configuration management of cloud infrastructure services.

  • Seek opportunities to improve or optimize processes through automation via cloud centric tools and Chef.

  • Revise existing solutions to modernize with the latest advances in cloud technologies to keep environments operating efficiently.

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD solutions based on Jenkins, Git, Maven, and Vagrant.

  • Implement and maintain container-based application services using Docker Swarm or Kubernetes.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.

Experience Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of RHEL systems administration (certification a plus).

  • Four (4) - seven (7) years of production support experience, with incident/change management, capacity planning, and problem resolution.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Production support experience, with incident/change management, capacity planning, and problem resolution.

  • Experience supporting cloud platforms based on AWS/GCP/Azure. Certification a plus.

  • Experience working with the varied classes of cloud storage systems across GCP/AWS/Azure.

  • L2/L3 networking skills, including good understanding of cloud networking solutions (SDN’s) provided by Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. Including but not limited to connectivity, security, and redundancy.

  • Experience with micro services and distributed architecture applications.

  • Proficiency with Chef, Groovy, shell scripting, python or equivalent scripting language.

  • Infrastructure as Code experience.

  • Simple understanding of database SQL.

  • Ability to write simple queries and verify databases.

  • Strong communicator that is self-driven and willing to adapt quickly to the changing landscape of cloud technologies.

  • An understanding of the Agile development method and its implementation.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $59.14 - $78.37 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
