The Opportunity

In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. In this role you will ensure that the assigned area meets or exceeds sales and profitability objectives. Formulates sales strategies for markets within the assigned geography and product lines to attain revenue goals set by the company. Leads sales representatives to identify and evaluate market opportunities and sales potential and to establish and achieve their annual sales objectives. Manages and coaches the activities of the customer facing team & manages relationships with direct reports and distributors when applicable. Negotiates contracts with external customers. Keeps the company informed of market dynamics and competitive activity. Responsible for the management and implementation of company policies.

What You’ll Do

  • Establish yearly territory sales plans in close cooperation with direct reports. Has direct reports and business update reports weekly. Address various factors such as successes and failures, critical factors, competitors' activities, sales, and customer prospects.

  • Discuss the ongoing strategies in all of the prospect accounts and directs team towards strategies most likely to have a successful outcome. Implement sales strategies.

  • Takes marketing input into consideration and currently has a marketing direct report.

  • Supports the Customer Facing Team in maintaining and expanding the business. Takes a leadership role in all significant contracts including proposing to Price Council for approvals. Works on contracts with new as well as with existing customers.

  • Has a keen understanding of the market and competition. Takes action to drive customer loyalty and improve overall satisfaction. Develops action plans based on keen understanding of the market, customer, and competitive landscape.

  • Supports marketing strategies by putting emphasis on strategies where appropriate and developing business cases as needed to support the business.

  • Maintains good customer relationships and works closely with direct reports to grow customer loyalty.

  • Administers the bonus incentive program in line with division directive.

  • Initiates and runs meetings with the customer facing team. (Presents the sales performance on a regular basis to the team. Ensures that the salesforce gets trained on new products and is engaged in key country meetings ensuring that the company is represented effectively at these meetings.

  • Has full responsibility for all sales, clinical, and marketing staff in allocated geographical area. Defines departments objectives, responsibilities staff of team and ensures goal achievement. Defines and communicates performance standards for the team and develops measurements to monitor it. Ensures that required trainings of the staff take place to increase job competence. Sets up a specific enhancement plan for each sales rep. Motivates team by appropriate reward and recognition of major achievements of the entire team and individuals.

  • Travel: 50-75%.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Business and/or Science required.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of management experience required with a minimum of 8+ years of business experience, in Sales or Marketing areas preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years Sales management experience or other relevant commercial experience.

  • Knowledge of the surgery market, products, and strategies.

  • Possesses and is proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word programs.

  • Understands and is proficient in sales forecasting.

  • Seasoned judgment acquired through organizational experience and achievements in the medical sales profession.

  • A comprehensive ability to analyze and evaluate technologically complex devices; ability to work with and direct others effectively; ability to prepare and present effectively written and verbal communications; and a thorough familiarity with medical device industry policies, operations, and procedures.

  • Comprehensive ability to effectively prioritize development projects using customer input.

  • Expert verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of frequently used personal computer programs and applications, such as, Microsoft Office.
