Centene Corporation Director, Tribal Relations in Olympia, Washington

Position Purpose: Acts as the single point of contact regarding delivery of health services or any other issues concerning American Indians. Acts as the Medicaid Tribal Liaison and Indian Health Care Compliance Manager as outlined in the Washington State Medicaid contracts. Provides guidance and consultation to departments for understanding federal and state regulatory requirements, often requiring process, system configuration, workflow, policy and procedure revisions. Facilitate relationship building with Tribes, Indian Health Care Providers, Urban Indian Health Programs, and Tribal community based organizations across two different health care delivery systems.

  • Promotes services and programs to improve the health of American Indian members including coordination of care.

  • Develops and communicates behavioral health programs as applicable to the members of the American Indian Nations.

  • Answers questions regarding processes, programs, policies, procedures, and statutes.

  • Provides technical assistance to support individual tribal initiatives.

  • Acts as the liaison with tribal nations.

  • Completes regular site visits in rural communities and remote areas to discuss the needs of tribal communities and facilitate collaborative processes.

  • Offers and provides trainings to tribal communities and members.

  • Delivers presentations to Tribal members as requested.

  • Collaborates closely with State stakeholders, including HCA and DCYF Tribal Affairs on contract requirements, system iprovement and coordination

  • Supports training and education of Health Plan Staff and provider agencies related to Evidence Based and Culturally Appropriate Practices.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience. 7+ years of related experience. Managed Care experience required. Must have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of American Indian cultures and ability to effectively communicate with Tribal Leaders and community members regarding the needs of tribal members. Knowledgeable about culturally-inclusive best practices, clinical practice guidelines and recovery principles. Possesses thorough understanding of the American Indian Health Service delivery system.

Additional WA State Experience:

Lived experience in a Tribal reservation community preferred. Requires knowledge of American Indians/Alaska Natives living in urban areas and on reservations, skilled in navigating Tribal, federal, and state governmental systems, ability to translate between the Indian Health Care Delivery and State Medicaid systems for a broad range of audiences, skilled in developing training that translates contract requirements to operational tasks across multiple teams, skilled with providing coaching across a diversity of people, ability to prioritize conflicting priorities and negotiate solutions where there is a lack of trust and processes.

5 years developing and implementing a Tribal Relations program within a managed care, including training, policy and procedure updates, advising on HCA contract requirements, attending HCA Tribal meetings, and developing Tribal relationships in Washington State and bordering states.

Pay Range: $103,500.00 - $191,600.00 per year
