Continental Resources Senior Staff Engineer in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Job Summary

The engineer will conduct integrated numerical reservoir simulation studies to evaluate the economic viability of EOR programs. The evaluations will incorporate rate and pressure transient analysis, petrophysical and geomechanical evaluations, PVT and phase behavior modeling, fracture modeling, and integrated numerical reservoir simulation. The engineer will coordinate said studies with laboratory tests and field surveillance programs for evaluating, designing, and scaling EOR projects. The engineer may also be called on to provide expert testimony in regulatory hearings and provide mentoring to other engineers in the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews performance of ongoing industry EOR projects.

  • Uses high level screening techniques to identify EOR opportunities for exploitation on CLR owned assets and acquisition targets.

  • Researches, develops, and documents processes and workflows.

  • Assists in budget preparation for anticipated projects.

  • Identifies, designs, oversees, and conducts data collection and laboratory testing in support of EOR feasibility studies.

  • Uses integrated numerical reservoir simulation tools. Including: PVT software, rate and pressure transient analysis tools, fracture modeling software, and numerical reservoir simulations tools to conduct engineering evaluations of the potential of EOR processes and pilots.

  • Performs petrophysical and geomechanical analysis in support of reservoir characterization.

  • Analyses the performance of existing waterflooding projects in conventional fields.

  • Evaluates the implementation and potential economic viability of water and/or CO2 flood projects in conventional fields.

  • Evaluates pilot performance and identifies appropriate actions for maximizing economic benefit and support full field expansion.

  • Reaches solid conclusions and provides recommendations consistent with sound engineering practices and company strategy. Communicates recommendations lucidly and succinctly to management and garner support for projects.

  • Provides exhibits and expert testimony at regulatory hearings supporting company EOR projects.

  • Works closely and collaborate with other EOR team members and other disciplines to accomplish desired outcomes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies

  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills coupled with a strong work ethic.

  • Advanced skills using integrated reservoir modeling tools (i.e. ResFrac, CMG, Petrel RE).

  • Advanced use of Rate Transient Analysis tools (i.e. Harmony, Whitson+)

  • Advanced use of fracture modeling software (i.e. ResFrac, GOHFER)

  • Advanced understanding of PVT properties, especially under conditions of miscibility or near-miscibility. Skillful user of PVT software (i.e. Winprop, PVTSim)

  • Ability to integrate data, observations, and interpretations from various sources into reservoir analysis.

  • Excellent computer skills including ability to efficiently manipulate large data sets and analyze field and laboratory data.

  • Working knowledge of economic programs (ARIES or similar industry software) preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited College or University and minimum of twelve (12) years of reservoir engineering and/or industry operational experience.

  • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with numerical reservoir simulation, rate and pressure transient analysis, petrophysical and geomechanical modeling.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of industry EOR experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.

  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
