Senior R&D Engineer

The Senior R&D Engineer will support R&D Hugo Robotic Assisted Surgery (RAS) systems by triaging failures, investigating root cause, and helping restore systems to working. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are critical to success in this role, as are analytical and hands-on troubleshooting abilities.

A Day in the Life

  • Provide rapid response triage (log analysis) for reported R&D RAS system issues.

  • Perform hands on hardware troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

  • Manage root cause investigations with external suppliers and help drive corrective actions.

  • Document investigation findings in Medtronic quality systems.

  • Present investigation findings to internal customers

  • Recommend repair actions to the Fleet Management team.

  • Perform statistical analysis and trend monitoring related to component failures.

  • Work hand in hand with the Released Product Engineering and R&D Reliability teams to share knowledge and support field investigations.

  • Support CAPA investigations.

  • Maintain Design History Records for work performed on fleet hardware.

  • Give input on design changes related to failure investigations.

  • Designs, develops, analyzes, troubleshoots and provides technical skills during research and/or product development.

  • Designs studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise.

  • Additional tasks as assigned

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of engineering experience

OR

  • An advanced degree with 2+ years of engineering experience

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced degree in relevant Engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, Aerospace, etc.)

  • Strong troubleshooting & analysis skills

  • Disassembly of complex components using basic hand tools.

  • Understand mechanical and electrical assembly drawings.

  • Write technical reports.

  • Analyze Software logs.

  • Debug software issues.

  • Manage multiple tasks and customers simultaneously.

  • Experience with mechanical failures.

  • Familiarity with QNX and Linux operating systems, both GUI and command line interfaces

  • Experience with highly regulated and/or safety-critical systems.

  • Knowledge of relevant technologies including:

  • Mechatronics / Robotics

  • Mechanical and electrical interfaces

  • Communication protocols

  • Sensors, actuators, controllers

  • Kinematics of mechanisms

  • Vision and display systems

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
