About the Position:

The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 65 military processing locations (Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS)), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services.

Duties:

Develop and evaluate financial policy.

Provide authoritative financial management advice and services to management to meet day-to-day and long-range needs of the organization.

Execute and analyze the current payroll status of funds.

Review, analyze and evaluate various organization operations as they relate to the overall cost of performing the mission and long-range program plans and funding goals.

Perform a full range of supervisory duties over administrative and technical staff.

Qualifications:

  • Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 13 months by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.

Specialized Experience Required:

  • To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, including: Performing budget formulation for budget year and out years; Preparing written justification for changes to program budget submissions; Conducting analysis of budget requests to determine validity of requests; Performing budget execution for current and prior years; Redistributing funds among programs to ensure funding shortages are resolved and/or excess funds are allocated. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience along--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement:

  • Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
