AbbVie Biologics Analytical Research & Development (Biologics Analytical R&D) is a global analytical sciences organization responsible for all CMC analytical activities related to the development of AbbVie's pharmaceutical products. Our scope includes AbbVie's diverse pipeline of innovative therapeutic biologic medicines and spans from the selection of Discovery candidate molecules through the transition of analytical methods and testing to commercial labs to support product launch. The Analytical Innovation and Mass Spectrometry group within Biologics ARD is responsible for support of programs throughout their lifecycle. The team develops state-of-the-art analytical techniques for the characterization of antibody drug conjugates (ADC) and other novel biologic molecules using mass spectrometry and other advanced analytical techniques. Key deliverables include the development and execution of state-of-the-art analytical methods, extended characterization of biologic molecules and work on cross-functional teams to develop ADC conjugation processes and drug product strategies. A successful candidate for this position will serve as a technical expert that will be able to: conceive and implement novel experimental approaches to answer scientific questions, investigate, identify, develop, or optimize new methods and techniques, and contribute to project science through productive collaboration and communication with other groups across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research or development activities, along with the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.

  • May initiate new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable, and can be incorporated directly into a research or development program.

  • Highly autonomous and productive in performing laboratory research or method development, requiring only minimal direction from or interaction with supervisor.

  • Author publications, presentations, regulatory documents and/or be an inventor on patents.

  • Independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer key scientific questions.

  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies, with the ability to innovate and implement new experimental protocols, and formulate conclusions with follow-on experiments.

  • Organize and present scientific plans and data to relevant stakeholders, and able to multitask and to deliver on project timelines. Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab.

  • Must be able to adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials and GxP compliance.

  • May include direct mentorship or supervision of other scientists.

  • Significant Work Activities -Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)

Qualifications

Qualifications

· M.S. degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. with no experience necessary.

· Solid foundation of theoretical and practical aspects of liquid chromatography applied to both small and large molecules. Prior 2D-LC experience is highly desirable.

· Previous hands-on experience with automated liquid handling systems to automate routine laboratory procedures. Experience with automation software (Microsoft Power Automate or similar) or knowledge of coding languages such as Python is a plus.

· Prior hands-on experience using mass spectrometry for protein analysis.

· Maintain a laboratory notebook in compliance with Good Laboratory/Manufacturing Practices.

· Strong data and time organization/management skills coupled with strong interpersonal and effective communication and writing skills for facilitating collaborations.

· Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques, while being able to multitask and operate within timelines.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
