The Senior Scientist II for Leica Biosystems is responsible for leading and supporting projects to develop and launch innovative new products to market. In addition, using initiative and critical thinking to solve complex problems and drive continuous improvements within the R&D department.

This position is part of the R&D Department located in Newcastle and will be on-site. At Leica Biosystems, our vision is to advance cancer diagnostics and improve lives.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Apply expertise and knowledge to develop new products

  • Lead functional teams and projects

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to small project teams/other associates

  • Contribute to strategic conversations

  • Solve complex problems and recommend best practices to improve products and processes

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Ideally PhD level scientist, or research graduate with relevant experience

  • A proven background immunohistochemistry gained in a clinical histopathology lab

  • Experience of interpretation of IHC slides

  • Demonstrable experience of assay optimisation/validation and understanding of regulatory requirements

  • In depth knowledge of routine clinical histology lab workflow (fixation, microtomy, staining, interpretation) and clinically relevant biomarkers/panels

  • Knowledge of cancer biology

  • Demonstrable experience of technical critical thinking/problem solving around IHC assays

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Antibody/diagnostic assay development in academic or industrial setting

  • Knowledge of current scientific opinion and market needs

  • Performing and/or interpretation of in situ hybridisation
