Job Description Summary:

The GTB Product Specialist - IC4 serves as an SME responsible for origination support of export finance transactions with US and overseas borrowers. They manage the transactions from origination through execution and liaises with GAOs on marketing plans (in liaison with the Head of Export and Agency Finance USA).

  • Identify opportunities and successfully sell innovative solutions to new to bank clients.

  • The role targets the expansion of Santander’s portfolio of clients in the US and is part of GTB’s Trade Origination Team with a focus on leverage finance and financial sponsors.

USA Job Function Description:

  • Act as advisor, consultant, and first point of contact for clients’ ongoing trade finance needs.

  • Manage client journey from sales through implementation, and act as escalation point of contact.

  • Achieve business through developing new relationships and by maintaining and enhancing those revenue streams as manager of the portfolio going forwardAdherence to internal processes to ensure control and transparency over sales activity.

Essential Functions/Responsibility Statements:

  • Market GTB trade products (Receivables, SCF, Structured Trade, Letters of Credit, EAF, etc.) to potential Santander clients in the sub-investment grade space, proactively looking for new business opportunities covering domestic or cross-border trade, with or without recourse and under a portfolio or name-by-name approach.

  • Preparation of pitches and RFIs designed to target C Suite level interaction through: Analysis of client’s financial strategy and their financial reports and compare them with their peers in the relevant sector, as well as presenting how the Santander trade products can support the client for it to achieve its strategic goals.

  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of key trends across our core sectors and potential application of our working capital products.

  • Contribute to the creation and future development of the product proposition through regular sharing of client feedback.

  • Coordinate stakeholders both internal (CDD, Compliance, Risks, Legal, IT,Compliance, Operations, etc.) and external (Legal firms, Insurers, brokers, etc.) to provide a best-in-class service and seamless end to end execution including client onboarding and due diligences process.

  • Ensure understanding of the Bank’s operating practices and governance and ensure these are followed in line with the guidelines.

  • Provide pricing / market intelligence to transactions, ensuring transaction profitability in line with the Bank’s capital models presenting to the relevant committees, where applicable.

  • Perform first line of defense role for the bank across all risks: Financial/ Credit, Legal, Reputational, Regulatory, Compliance, etc.

  • Reporting to senior management regarding the progress of the commercial agenda.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent degree and/or work experience, in Business, Finance, or a related field.

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years in Product Development, Business Development, or Trade Finance.

  • 3+ years in Client Relationship & Development.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in working with sub-investment grade clients. Exposure to Commodities and Financial Sponsors is a plus.

  • Strong expertise in A/R deals.

  • High motivation, proactivity, and accomplished business origination skills

  • 5+ years of experience in Trade Finance (Payables/ Receivables/ ECA/ Doc Trade) and/or 3+ years of experience in client relationship management & development of new to bank relationships.

  • Significant financial knowledge (Working capital cycle, cash flow forecasting, financial statement analysis, modelling etc.).

  • High level of presentation and organizational skills.

  • Understanding of mechanics, drivers and risks associated with Trade products.

  • Understanding the competitive market and the role of technology within Trade finance.

  • Capability to develop relationships inside the organization to collaborate across geographical boundaries.

  • In depth understanding of the front to back execution process trade products.

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

  • Specific trade related qualification.

  • Knowledge of ESG in the context of trade finance.

  • Knowledge of how clients manage purchase to pay process.

  • Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP/Oracle/ Sage.

  • Additional languages (e.g., Spanish).

  • Previous exposure to operational Trade Finance areas (Middle Office, Back Office, Legal).

  • Experience in trade asset mobilization and other capital enhancing and credit risk mitigation techniques.

Working Conditions: Frequent Minimal physical effort such as sitting, standing and walking. Occasional moving and lifting equipment and furniture is required to support onsite and offsite meeting setup and teardown. For NYC Job Applicants: The base annual salary range for this position is $152,641-$215,000. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
