The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Research Assistant will conduct metabolic cardiopulmonary stress testing on clinical and research patients diagnosed with heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, congenital heart disease, and other cardiovascular, pulmonary, or metabolic disorders. This role entails utilizing specialized equipment and technology to evaluate patients' cardiopulmonary function, thereby contributing valuable data for clinical and research purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct metabolic cardiopulmonary exercise testing, including pre-test communication, explaining the test, determining exercise protocols, calibrating metabolic carts, collecting gas exchange data, preparing and recording ECGs, measuring blood pressure, and monitoring oxygen saturation. Candidates will ensure overall patient safety during exercise.
  • Organize the laboratory testing schedule and collaborate effectively with patients, physicians, and other medical personnel.
  • Gather patient history information using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Prepare and process preliminary data, assisting the lab director in data analysis.
  • Assist in maintaining and managing electronic databases.
  • Support the maintenance of the lab, testing equipment, and ordering supplies.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science, with at least 1.5 years of relevant experience or equivalent training/experience.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as an Exercise Physiologist (e.g., ACSM-EP, ASEP, or equivalent).
  • ACLS certification
  • Proficiency in managing metabolic carts.
  • Familiarity in database design and statistical analysis a plus.

Other Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program:
    • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects;
    • Wear N-95 respirator.
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
