Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, Inc. seeks Project Engineer in New York, NY.Duties: Engage in project management tasks including project manpower estimates, project communications, budget monitoring and inputs, organizing deliverables, setting project standards for delivery. Develop typical details, specifications, and drawing standards, including development of Revit standards in coordination with the BIM team. Remain current on industry and technology changes and trends and recommending changes in approach and services as appropriate. Improve analytic processes and documentation, common solutions, and critical solutions. Foster a commitment to external and internal client service. Responsible for the project engineering of small to medium sized projects (less than $80m in construction cost) fromconcept and schematic design through construction documents to construction and commissioning. Responsible for the project engineering of segments of large (over $100m) projects, supporting a Senior Project Engineer. Provide design inputs and reviews of other engineer’s projects. Attend meetings with clients and promote positive client contact with current or prospective clients. Perform site visit surveys to determine engineering strategies for renovation, and to document and evaluate existing systems. Visit project sites during construction for reviews of quality, progress, and compliance with specifications and standards. Conduct project reviews at all stages of design. As needed, provide support to business development, including write-up of key aspects of projects and presentation of work at industry events, and prepare fee estimates and assumptions for a particular discipline on potential projects. Work with architects on concepts for project competitions.Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field plus 5 years of experience in related occupations. Alternately, employer will accept a Master’s degree in Engineering or related field plus 3 years of experience in related occupations. Also, requires 5 years ( 3 years with a Master's) of experience in each of the following: providing design input in structural design philosophy and strategy of projects incorporating architecture, engineering, and other required specialty systems such as conveying, security and fire suppression; engineering materials,detailing and construction techniques, structural engineering principles, codes, and standards; common analysis tools for structural design including ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, RAM Structural System and RISA; complex analysis tools including STRAND7 and Optistruct, parametric modeling and analysis tools including Rhino, Grasshopper and Karamba3D, and programing languages Python and C#; industry standard documentation software, Revit and AutoCAD; structural diagrams and renderings using Enscape, V-ray and Affinity suite; checking and coordinating project documents for compliance with project technical requirements and understanding multi-disciplinary coordination issues; and communicating clearly both verbally and in written form, with an understanding of industry communication protocols. Additionally, requires 3 years of experience in contributing to the development of company standards, policies, and procedures; improving analytical and documentation workflow; and developing typical details, specifications, and drawing standards, including development of Revit standards in coordination with the BIM team. Further, requires 2 years of experience in directly training and mentoring junior team members; and providing design inputs and reviews in accordance with the company QA/QC processes and records management protocols. Lastly, requires 1 year of experience in project management; setting, monitoring, and delivering to budgets; and leading the production resources and schedules of documentation for agreed-upon deliverables. Telecommuting is permitted. License PE in the state of NY required.40 hours/week, $126,714 to $127,714 per year.
