The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Postdoctoral Research Scientist in New York, New York

The Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to investigate the signaling mechanisms of neurodegeneration.

Experiments may involve primary rodent neuron culture, iPS cell culture and differentiation, and work with frozen human brain tissue. Proficiency in cell culture, RT-PCR, confocal microscopy, and immunoblotting techniques are required. Experience with the analysis of multi-omics datasets will be helpful.

Ability to work with minimal guidance is expected and essential. The desired candidate must be able to develop and learn new techniques as required for these studies as well as teach techniques to other members of the laboratory. Additional duties may be assigned as required by the PI.

Responsibilities

Take ownership of a challenging, high-risk, high-reward research project focused on understanding neurodegenerative signaling mechanisms. Independently design and carry out experiments. Work well with other team members.


Minimum Qualifications

PhD and or MD awarded within the past 3 years.

Proficiency in basic cell biologic techniques including cell culture, RT-PCR, confocal microscopy, and immunoblotting.

Preferred/additional Qualifications

Experience generating and analyzing proteomics and/or transcriptomics datasets.

Qualified applicants must be a recent recipient of a PhD and/or MD awarded within the past three years. The only exception to this requirement is individuals of greater experience who wish to retrain themselves in a new discipline or specialty.
