The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Graduate Program Manager, the Ph.D. Program Coordinator manages confidential student records, assists with degree eligibility evaluations, and prepares various comprehensive reports. They also play a key role in coordinating admissions, course scheduling, and the assignment of Teaching Assistants, ensuring the smooth operation of the Ph.D. program.

The department has many eminent faculty who teach in the areas of Behavioral and Experimental Economics, Contracts and Organization, Development Economics, Econometrics, Finance, Health and Education, Economic History, Industrial Organization, International Macroeconomics, International Trade, Labor Economics, Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, Microeconomics, Political Economy, Public Economics, and Urban Economics.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Graduate Program Manager, the incumbent coordinates the Ph.D. admissions process.
  • Works closely with the Department Chair, committee chairs, Ph.D. students, and other University offices; interprets and explains departmental and Graduate School rules, requirements, and procedures; updates online information for Ph.D. students on relevant web pages; organizes and participates in Ph.D. student orientation.
  • In coordination with the Directors of Graduate Studies and Undergraduate Instructions, assigns Teaching Fellows (approximately 50+ per semester) and tracks all student research and instructional appointments.
  • Prepares reports for the Director of Graduate Studies, the Graduate Program Manager, the Department Chair, and the Director of Academic Administration and Finance, including but not limited to admissions and financial aid, curriculum, and job placement.
  • Assists in general registration and schedules all Ph.D. courses and certifying/field/placement exams.
  • Maintains the confidential records of over 120 continuously registered Ph.D. students and reviews records regularly to determine degree eligibility and status.
  • Compiles confidential Ph.D. student information for faculty reviews on an annual basis; assists departmental Placement officers; tracks student data and travel funds; answers all inquiries concerning the Ph.D. program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or its equivalent required. Three years of related experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some college is preferred.
  • Some experience in an academic environment is preferred.
  • Ability to quickly acquire facility with web-based student information and admissions systems.
  • Experience in dealing with international students.

  • Excellent writing skills are required.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required, including tact and discretion.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with spreadsheet reporting, are required.
