Minimum Qualifications Current certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Duties Description As a Health Information Management Technician 1, you would review diagnostic and therapeutic medical records for completeness, accuracy, and to reflect current and future treatment needs; ensure records are compliant with accreditation, research, and legal requirements; supervise and perform coding of diseases, diagnoses, operations, and procedures; participate in committees concerned with policies and procedures governing medical records; assist facility staff in resolving problems with proper medical records maintenance and use; train staff in the goals and procedures of the health information management program; and when necessary, work on wards, units, clinics, and other locations in the facility or the community where treatment services are provided. Supervision of lower-level staff may be required.Notes: 1. Continued employment as a Health Information Management Technician 1 is dependent upon current certification as a RHIA or RHIT. Loss of certification may result in removal from this position.
