About Global Financial Crimes In Global Financial Crimes (GFC), you will play a critical role in identifying potentially suspicious activity, protecting vulnerable individuals, and safeguarding the integrity of the financial system. GFC coordinates day-to-day implementation of the Firm's financial crime prevention efforts. Including governance, oversight, and execution of the Firm's Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions, Anti-Corruption and Government and Political Activities Compliance programs.

Your Key Responsibilities As the Head of Governance and Rules Changes for Global Financial Crimes, you will oversee the GFC Governance and Escalation Framework across the regions, as well as the GFC Rules Change Framework. Specific job responsibilities include:

Governance

  • Collaborating with the GFC Management Committee and GFC Governance and Escalation Committee Chairs to identify GFC-related issues to escalate to senior stakeholders from the business/region
  • Preparing presentations on GFC escalations and large-scale initiatives for Committees within the GFC Governance and Escalation Framework and the Firm's Non-Financial Risk Framework, including for the Board Audit Committee
  • Tracking GFC's tolerance levels across key risks, including analyzing changes in the primary risk drivers using qualitative as well as quantitative considerations
  • Maintaining awareness and identifying significant industry developments that may impact the Firm's business and GFC program

Rules Change

  • Maintaining awareness and identifying significant new or changed financial crimes rules or regulations
  • Analyzing and interpreting new or changed rules, including the impact on the GFC program, and communicating to relevant stakeholders
  • Coordinating GFC's use of the Firm's regulatory change management tool (Themis) and serving as GFC's representative on the Themis Governance Forum
  • Tracking compliance with rule change requirements to align to effective date/implementation date of rule, as appropriate
  • Overseeing updates to the GFC Rules Change Framework and related procedures
  • Analyzing industry developments and emerging risks, including the impact on the GFC program, and communicating to relevant stakeholders

Reporting Lines This role reports to the GFC Chief Operating Officer and has several direct reports.

What We're Looking for in You

  • 4 year college degree with outstanding academic credentials
  • 10 years professional experience in an Anti-Money Laundering, Legal or Compliance role
  • Detailed understanding of the laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Economic Sanctions, Anti-Corruption, Anti-Tax Evasion, and/or Government and Political Activities Compliance
  • Excellent PowerPoint presentation skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills geared towards a senior management audience
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to execute tasks within tight deadlines
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and team-player attitude, necessary to work effectively with colleagues across regions and business units
  • Strong understanding of financial services industry
  • Experience managing a small team of compliance professionals
  • Be certified as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS or equivalent AML certification/license - or certification within 15 months of hire

Where You'll be Working This role will require in office attendance 3 days/week. Two of those days will be Anchor Days where you will be in the office with your teammates to learn, grow, and collaborate in person.

/Expected base pay rates for the role in New York will be between $160,000 and $250,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs./
