POSITION DETAILS

Hunter College, located in the heart of Manhattan, is the largest college in the City University of New York (CUNY). Founded in 1870, it is also one of the oldest public colleges in the country. More than 23,000 students currently attend Hunter, pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 170 areas of study.

The Office of Finance and Business Operations is currently seeking a Deputy Director for Accounts Payable operations. Serve as Deputy and Report to the Director of Finance and Business Affairs; the duties of the Deputy Director for AP encompass primary responsibility for managing the College’s OTPS and NTL payables. Ideal candidate of AP Deputy Director will monitor and process full cycle Accounts Payable functions for both academic and administrative departments within the College, provide direct support and assistance to the Accounts Payable team and Management on day-to-day processes, respond to inquiries, and track vendor payment obligations

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties include but are not limited to the following activities:

  • Manages review and tracking, processes, and problem-solves items related to purchase order encumbrances, payment, and year-end reconciliations;

  • Verifies vouchers to ensure invoices match to Receipts in CUNYfirst and all required signatures and appropriate documentation are in place to timely issue payments;

  • Provides an adequate review of all tax levy and non-tax levy travel and expense reimbursements for faculty and staff;

  • Assures information is accurately collected and responds to audit requests from the New York State Department of Audit and Control, the New York City Comptroller's Office, and the University Accounting Office;

  • Generates CUNYfirst queries and summarizes reports for payment data analysis;

  • Works closely with Purchasing and Budget areas to ensure prompt payment and coordinates timely vendor payments;

  • Collaborates with the Accounting, Budget and Purchasing Departments on all related matters to help with cross-organizational success;

  • Provides oversight, training and guidance to a team of 6 AP Analysts, including their performance evaluation;

  • Performs related managerial duties as assigned and decision-making on relevant matters when needs arise.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will have Master's degree in Business, Public Administration, Finance, Economics or a field related to the specific assignment and one year of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of full-time experience in budgetary planning/management, financial analysis, public policy analysis or a related field required.

In addition, applicants should have the following preferred skills:

  • Solid working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERPs), preferably CUNY's PeopleSoft ERP (CUNYFirst), State Financial System (SFS), City Financial Management System (FMS), and other related Purchasing and Accounts Payable systems.

  • Detail-oriented and accurate with strong quantitative, financial, and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills with the ability to establish sound plans, manage a large workload and multiple assignments with competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a time-sensitive office.

  • Motivated and enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to work well under pressure, take initiative, exercise sound judgment, discretion and tact in various situations, and solve problems creatively and diplomatically.

  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and possess a shared organizational value for integrity, flexibility and professional/ethical behavior.

  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including general presentation and financial reporting;

  • Advanced proficiency using MS Excel spreadsheet functions to perform complex data analyses (pivot tables, vlookup, etc.) strongly preferred

  • Advises management regarding funding appropriateness and proposes fiscal solutions to resolve academic and/or administrative issues

  • Prepares and manages production of statistical/analytical reports pertinent to financial and operational activities

  • Assists in developing budgeting policies and procedures, and interprets University-wide policy

  • Liaisons with auditors and other internal and external agencies as necessary

  • May negotiate contracts

  • May hire, supervise and train finance and/or clerical staff and manage related administrative functions

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience ( $90,375 - $117,805 ).
