POSITION DETAILS
The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College - CENTRO, is a university-based research institute whose mission is to produce, facilitate, and disseminate interdisciplinary research about the experiences of Puerto Ricans in the U.S. and to collect. preserve, and provide access to archival and library resources documenting the history and culture of Puerto Ricans. To complement these core activities, Centro sponsors a year-round program of educational and cultural activities.
About the Position
The Data Hub Research Specialist reports to the Director of Research Programs and is responsible for administering CENTRO's internal and external research projects. The Data Hub research specialist also provides data analysis and prepares and presents reports and other products. In addition, the Data Hub Research Specialist supervises or provides leadership to CENTRO's data hub staff including GIS Specialists, Data Analysts and Research Assistants.
Core Responsibilities
Assist in the management and support of the Data Hub Team.
Communicate regularly and proactively with Director of Research to set general CENTRO research agenda.
Recommend new methods of data collection using statistical techniques, visualization, and researchmethods.
Serve as assistant project manager for internal and external research projects.
Supervise day-to-day operations within Data Hub unit.
Staff Management
Supervise members of the Data Hub Team.
Support and manage team through project execution.
Facilitate weekly meetings to ensure work is moving forward and deadlines are met.
Serve as a facilitator during project and retrospective meetings.
Oversee data hub submitted work, and advises graphic designer and editor on related data hub assignmements.
Planning & Oversight
Create project documentation under direction.
Plan and monitor project execution.
Coordinate projects and manage project interdependencies.
Managecross-project resources.
Identify and address project issues.
Implement and manage change when necessary to meet project outputs.
Evaluate and assess project performance.
Oversee data entry tasks, that includes the creation, update, and maintenance of spreadsheets and databases.
Oversee data requests from internal and external stakeholders to completion.
Research and Analysis
Conduct background research and compile materials, including literature reviews.
Collect and prepare data for reports and other products.
Identify, analyze, interpret, and present trends or patterns in complex data sets.
Create and maintain rich interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis, with reporting components from multiple data sources.
Prepare, format, and present reports and other products.
Administrative Tasks
Create and manage datahub budget under directon.
Input reports and products into WordPress.
Manage and respond to emails from external partners and stakeholders who work with Centro.
Schedule and facilitate meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in the social sciences, statistics, computer science, or administration is highly preferred.
Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as Python, R, or Stata
Experience working with multiple stakeholders to develop collaborative relationships.
Other Qualifications
Documented experience in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research design and analysis.
Experience in Puerto Rican Studies research is desirable.
Effective leadership skills, especially a positive attitude towards change with the willingness to learn new skills and proactively seek opportunities to better the position, department, and institution.

Compiles, maintains, and analyzes institutional data in various formats
Produces reports and metrics based on department's needs; responds to time-critical ad-hoc requests
Loads, extracts, edits, and evaluates data for reporting and analytics
Maintains selected databases and document libraries, updating and ensuring data quality and accuracy
May participate in internal and external surveys as needed
May consult with others in designing methodology for research projects
Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience ($52,267 - $70,238)
