FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY Med) at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CUNY Med graduated its first MD class in 2020. CUNY Med also has a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies (PA). Our PA Program is a 28-month graduate program leading to a M.S. degree and certification as a Physician Assistant pending successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination. We are one of the first degree-granting physician assistant programs in the country. Our mission is to provide access to medical education to talented youth from social, ethnic and racial backgrounds historically under-represented in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care. With our reputation for excellence we have earned national acclaim for performance and a broad network of clinical sites for clerkships.

The Physician Assistant Program is searching for a Clinical Coordinator to serve in the title of Medical Distinguished Lecturer. Distinguished Lecturers perform teaching in areas of expertise and related clinical and faculty duties They are experienced practitioners or teachers who hold a full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum appointment period of seven years, subject to annual reappointment. Distinguished Lecturers share responsibility for committee, program, and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The Clinical Coordinator (Medical Distinguished Lecturer) will report to the Assistant Dean/Program Director of the Physician Assistant Program. Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Act as a liaison between the Program and the preceptors of established clinical sites

  • Secure clinical sites consistent with the objectives of the PA Program

  • Maintain on-going site evaluation process to ensure quality of teaching for each clinical site

  • Coordinate and schedule all clinical rotations for each student in each clinical site

  • Create and revise learning objectives for each rotation

  • Revise Clinical and Preceptor Handbooks each year

  • Co-coordinate yearly "clinical year orientation"

  • Ensure that each student has all appropriate certifications, immunizations, and any other requirements necessary for clinical clerkships

  • Provide on-site evaluation of students in clinical rotations

  • Develop student evaluation instruments consistent with the goals of each clinical rotation

  • Monitor the receipt of all components and assessment instruments on Typhon System

  • Grade medical notes

  • Monitor individual student progress during the clinical year

  • Coordinate monthly "call back" sessions during the clinical year

  • Develop end-of-rotation exams

  • Test item analysis

  • Participate in program responsibilities such as student admissions, curriculum development and student evaluation

  • Participate in the duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation

  • Serve as a Faculty Advisor for professional students

  • Perform related duties as determined by the Program Director

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should hold a Master's degree and current license as a Physician Assistant in New York State. Applicants are also required to be a Certified Physician Assistant, with no less than five years of clinical experience. Also required are a record of achievement in his/her profession or field of expertise with a strong commitment to the physician assistant profession.

COMPENSATION

Salary range: $118,000 - $130,000
