The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Center for Career Education (CCE) is an innovative team of career services professionals dedicated to supporting the diverse body of students and alumni in reaching their personal and professional goals. We achieve this by providing access to networking connections, experiential learning opportunities and jobs, comprehensive resources, and customized career counseling. CCE serves undergraduate students and alumni in Columbia College, The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of General Studies, and collaborates with Career Centers in other schools at Columbia University and its affiliated institutions.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Administration & Planning, the Assistant Director of Research and Technology is an integral member of the nine-person Administration & Planning team at CCE. In tandem with the Associate Director of Research and Technology, the Assistant Director works with technology systems at the Center and trains CCE staff in their utilization. Systems currently in use at the Center include: a client relationship management system (Salesforce); a customized job board (Handshake); the CCE website; data collection and visualization tools; and other critical software applications. This position will work closely with multiple key stakeholders, CCE staff, peer technical groups, and external technology vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Columbia College Information Technology (CCIT) in troubleshooting and supporting the technological needs of CCE. Act as a point of contact for hardware and software issues for the Center, administer online surveys, and lead data collection, analysis, and reporting for CCE activity using a variety of critical software applications. Together with the Associate Director and CCIT, maintain a current inventory of technological hardware and software. Analyze, research, and make recommendations for improving CCE's technological infrastructure as well as data visualization and reporting cycles. Together with the Executive Director, Associate Director, and CCIT, responsible for long-term planning for technological needs and implementing approved recommendations.
  • Support the management of a client relationship management system (Salesforce) as well as a job board system (Handshake). Act as a functional consultant, business process analyst, and project manager. Help to determine scope, maintain project timelines and key milestones, prioritize design and systems integration issues, and facilitate systems implementation while managing data integrity and accuracy. Contribute to the development and testing of system enhancements, analyze data and systems issues, and recommend process changes. Collaborate with system users and external vendors to identify design issues and improvements to system performance. Maintain and document best practices, knowledge base of problems and solutions, FAQs, and coordinate staff training and support.
  • Administer the First Destination Survey (Beyond Columbia Survey) to obtain graduating student statistics on an annual basis. Analyze online data forms and report survey results. Provide reports for internal and external publication on employment statistics of Columbia graduates' post-graduation plans.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, Associate Director, and on occasion other Center staff to provide statistical analysis on Center usage by students, alumni, and other key stakeholders for use in annual reports and other publications. Help design and implement evaluation of Center programs (e.g., understanding why certain workshops work or don't work) using assessment tools such as Baseline/Campus Labs.
  • Onboard new staff and off board departing staff. Facilitate continued training and education of CCE staff in the tech and data analysis space. Maintain a shared repository of policies and procedures. Document and maintain best practices around cyclical reporting and ensure this is shared clearly with staff on a regular basis. Represent CCE at professional conferences.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience required.
  • The successful candidate will be highly organized and detail oriented, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with diverse populations.
  • Interest in the work of career services, student development, and higher education.
  • Understanding of web standards, usability, and accessibility.
  • Must have data analysis skills and ability to learn new applications quickly, as well as the ability to articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Initiative, good independent judgment, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision required.
  • Flexibility in shifting priorities in a dynamic environment. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in research, higher education, career services, and data analysis preferred.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Salesforce, Handshake, Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft 365, desktop publishing software, Drupal content management, and webpage design.
