Position Description
In collaboration with the Nashville community, Metro Social Services will establish and operate a cold weather overflow shelter during periods of inclement weather during the winter season, for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and seeking indoor shelter.
This is a non-Civil Service position with Social Services
Salary: $15.03 per hour
The Volunteer is responsible for assisting attendees and maintaining the shelter.
Applications accepted until all positions are filled.
Typical Duties
Assist and monitor all shelter attendees
Maintain sign-in sheet of all attendees on each shift
Volunteers must brief next shift of volunteers before they leave the shelter
Report any incidents and or issues to the MSS Metro Coordinator
Receive and prepare food for meals
Monitor shelter count
Each volunteer must ensure that the shelter schedule is adhered to
Each volunteer is responsible for cleaning up prior to the next shift reporting
First shift volunteers must work with the Office of Emergency Management to ensure that the shelter is prepared to open
When the shelter is closing volunteers must coordinate with the Office of Emergency Management to assist in this process
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience working with homeless populations.
Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours and on-call.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
