Position Description
The BOSS Building Maintenance Safety Coordinator position provides support to the facility management staff and Zone supervisor(s) to ensure the safe and successful delivery of building operations and support services for the facilities managed by General Services. This position will be responsible for a variety of safety and security services essential to operations. Performs related duties as required.
The men and women in Metro’s General Services Department are there to make sure the rest of government works. From ensuring that our city’s vehicles run safely and smoothly, to keeping city buildings up to par to providing printing services and more, General Services is the support that allows other Metro departments to focus and achieve their missions.
Typical Duties
Creates, implements and coordinates building safety programs.
Maintains evacuation plans for all facilities and insure they are posted and up to date.
Participates in developing, overseeing, and implementing a comprehensive preparedness program for department facilities.
Trains facility personnel on emergency procedures.
Conducts drills for severe weather, flood, earthquake, active shooter and bomb threats.
Provides documentation and training to customers, technicians and agencies on various evacuation drills and procedures.
Conducts fire drills annually in coordination with building tenants, maintenance staff, MNPD and NFD.
Coordinates inspections and monitors compliance of fire and life safety systems in department facilities.
Maintains records on facility inspections and follow up on deficiency repairs or replacements to maintain Green Tag status on fire alarm and sprinklers.
Ensures all AED’s are operational and checked monthly.
Coordinates contents of Knox Boxes at designated facilities.
Ensures all fire extinguishers are charged and properly mounted and signage is correct.
Acts as departmental liaison to Metro Fire Marshal.
Coordinates OSHA inspections with Human Resources and Departmental Safety Coordinators to ensure safety regulation compliance.
Coordinates Insurance Carrier inspections of facilities and coordinates corrections identified.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent and ten (10) years of experience in the area of Building, Occupational, and/or Industrial Safety, or similar Safety related area of specialty, including five (5) years of increasingly responsible supervisory/lead experience and/or Safety related project management experience.
Additional education may be considered In lieu of some experience
LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid Driver License
MNPD Background required

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience with safety procedures, practices, and policies related to TOSHA regulations and requirements
Working knowledge of local fire and building codes
Experience writing comprehensive safety narratives and concise and informative reports as well as suggest recommended improvements
