Position Summary: The OB Scrub Tech assists in Labor & Delivery, the Nursery and on the nursing unit as directed by a Registered Nurse. This employee answers phones, enters orders in Meditech as requested by physicians and nursing personnel, and participates in planning and implementing the patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and based on the Nursing Process. This includes assisting the surgeon during operative procedures, ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for the procedure, monitors PAR levels of supplies and equipment, and participates in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.

Qualifications

Education: : High School graduate and graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program

Experience/Qualifications: An individual may not practice surgical technology in a health care facility unless the individual meets one of the following requirements (and/or additional specifics outlined by SC State Law 44-7-380) plus annually must complete 15 hours of continuing education to remain qualified for employment.

Successfully completed an accredited education program for surgical technologist and holds and maintains the Surgical Technologist Certification administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or its successor. Upon completion of an accredited program for surgical technologists, graduates may practice for up to 3 months before completing certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor Completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard or in the United States Public Health Service Provides evidence that the individual was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility in this State prior to January 1, 2008 Is in the service of the federal government, to the extent the individual is performing duties related to that service.

Special Skills: Works with patients, families and other health care providers.

Other:

American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the GHS Staff Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the GHS Staff Development Office are approved by Staff development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two years.

Physical Requirements: Medium While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally , and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently , and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
