DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a professional nursing position involving responsibility for coordinating individual patient care and for performing nursing services requiring substantial specialized judgment and skills. Work is performed under the general direction of a higher level nursing position and in accordance with a prescribed nursing care plan. In the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, the incumbent also functions as a consultant to Licensed Practical Nurses on the care of residents. In the County Department of Health, the incumbent performs nursing care in patients' homes and in clinic settings. Supervision may be exercised over Licensed Practical Nurses and related auxiliary nursing personnel. A Registered Professional Nurse does related work as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must meet all requirements described in the following table in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment:Qualification Option #1Training/Education Graduation from a nursing education program acceptable to the New York State Education Department (NYSED).General experience None required.Supervisory experience N.A.License/ Certification Licensed by New York State to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.Other requirementsSee Special Qualifications below.
