DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves the routine care of patients in accordance with a detailed and well-defined patient care plan. In a skilled nursing facility, the Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direct supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. Assignments concerning patient care are specifically provided with limited leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision of subordinates will vary with the type of facility providing the patient/resident services. Does related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment:Qualification option #1.2.Training/EducationN.A.Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department as licensure qualifying no more than 90 days prior to submission of an application for employment.General experienceN.A.N.A.Supervisory experienceN.A.N.A.License/CertificationPossession of a New York State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.Submission to the New York State Department of Education of the Application for Licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse, the Application for Limited Permit, and paid the required fees.Other requirementsLicense must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.Must obtain licensure from the New York State Department of Education within 90 days of graduation from the nursing education program to be eligible for continuing employment. License must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
