To support our growth, we’re looking for a Teaching Kitchen Chef to join our awesome team!

The Teaching Kitchen Chef takes ownership for the overall operational success of the Culinary Education Program at the KitchenSync teaching kitchen. This entails adhering to the Client’s culture and guidelines, supporting and facilitating our contracted curriculum, and Compass standards of food quality, freshness and presentation. This position is accountable for the teaching kitchen’s daily administrative, operational and culinary tasks, including sanitation and safety. In addition the teaching kitchen Chef also coordinates with the cafe Chefs to motivate, train, develop and direct the employees to accomplish the objectives of the operation and maintain a positive relationship with our client.

Approximately 75% of time spent working in the teaching kitchen for event preparation and facilitation with the remaining 25% of the time dedicated to administrative duties, curriculum research and development..

This role will be based in Mountain View, CA.

What we look for in the perfect candidate

Teaching Kitchen Program

  • Organize, prepare for and facilitate cooking classes in the teaching kitchen.

  • Supports teaching kitchen events through scheduling, preparation and organization.

  • Ensure that classes are engaging, timely and conducted with a safety first approach.

  • Lead the culinary staff in all Corporate initiatives including Circle of Responsibility, Low Carbon Diet and Farm to Fork Programs

  • Prepare well balanced menus that meet cultural and dietary needs of the Café guests.

  • Ensure that all products and ingredients that are used are purchased following Bon Appétit/Google purchasing standards and sustainability commitments.

  • Make sure all kitchen waste is disposed of properly in the most sustainable manner.

  • Responsible for making sure that labor and food cost budgetary goals are met.

  • Responsible for placing proper orders, sourcing the best local and seasonal ingredients and following purchasing guidelines.

  • Complete inventory on an appropriate schedule.

  • Ensure that the overall café meets the standards as presented in Great Expectations, as well as oversee the daily appearance of the entire space.

  • Assist Catering Management team with special events as needed with staff and culinary support

  • Strategically plan seasonal tastings of new menu items.

  • Adhere to all Health Department, OSHA and ADA regulations.

  • Follow all Safety Manual guidelines.

  • Report any injury, accident and/or foodborne illness incident for customers and/or staff accurately and in a timely manner to the General Manager.

  • Provide safety training in lifting, carrying, hazardous material control, chemical control, first aid and CPR.

Overall Management

  • Meet all timelines for payroll, cafe service, accounts receivable, human resources, corporate programs and all other project deadlines given by Google and management.

  • Teach and adhere to program philosophy, culture and commitment to quality food and exemplary service.

  • Have a Passion for food and service.

  • Ensure all products and purchases meet program sustainability guidelines.

  • Train and supervise the daily conduct of the staff.

  • Evaluate staff and actively work to develop managerial leadership and culinary skills.
