Responsibilities

  • What You'll Do

  • Provides informational and/or academic advisement to military personnel of all ranks, their dependents, and/or civilian personnel pursuing high school completion, adult education for college preparation, professional certificates/licenses, associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, as well as vocational, technical, and professional development opportunities

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Examines and/or performs tasks using knowledge and experience in applying procedures and policies pertinent to the Air Force Voluntary Education Program.

  • Serves as the focal point for all educational assessment and advisement areas.

  • Interviews and compiles personal and academic histories.

  • Documents and maintains customer educational information in the Military Personnel Data System (MilPDS) and the Air Force Automated Education Management System (AFAEMS).

  • Reviews secondary and post-secondary educational transcripts.

  • Selects, administers, and interprets tests and interest inventories so they can properly advise individuals on their vocational aptitudes and interests and educational strengths and weaknesses.

  • Assists in establishing realistic educational and vocational goals.

  • Provides advisement and enrollment assistance on all educational services available on the installation, in the local community, and through distance learning.

  • Thoroughly searches available information on educational programs including grants, tuition assistance (TA), scholarships, etc., to ensure all opportunities have been considered.

  • Provides accurate and up-to-date information on applicable grants, scholarships, tuition assistance, or VA benefit programs for which personnel may qualify.

  • Advises personnel regarding requirements for unique Air Force educational opportunities such as professional military education (PME), Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Air Force Educational Leave of Absence (AFELA), and Educational Deferment programs.

  • Provides assistance with processing and verifying non-resident PME enrollments and information retrieval using the MilPDS.

  • Services as the focal point for all Airman Commissioning Programs and assists members with the application process as needed.

  • Informs the Military Personnel Section to assign availability codes and monitors personnel on the Assignment Availability Code roster.

  • Advises personnel on all aspects of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) programs, to include the Air University Associates-to-Baccalaureate Cooperative (AU-ABC) and General Education – Mobile (GEM) programs.

  • Provides guidance to organizations charged with conducting CCAF graduation ceremonies.

  • Monitors progress of CCAF instructors toward degree attainment in support of CCAF faculty initiative.

  • Prepares and conducts educational briefings for groups or units to advise and promote educational programs.

  • Composes articles for publication in base newspapers, bulletins, Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC), and other media to create interest in and awareness of available educational and self-development programs.

  • Develops and uses materials such as flyers and brochures to promote understanding of educational and related programs.

  • Provides verification of eligibility, processing, and approval/disapproval of requests for TA and other affiliated documents to support the TA program.

  • Provides guidance and training for Education Technicians.

  • Provides statistical information on programs and operations, as required.

  • Provides assistance, as needed, with the On-Base Testing Program to include AU/A4/6 exams, college-level computer- based/hard copy testing, and other exams, as required.

  • Identifies and conducting Distance Learning (DL) programs, as required.

  • Some receptionists or clerical duties may be performed, to include, but not limited to: Preparing and processing incoming and outgoing mail, correspondence, reports, and forms; operating office equipment (e.g. fax, photocopy, and scanner machine); helping customers and answering telephones.

  • Ensures files, publications, and documents applicable to the work center are properly maintained.

  • Assists with all non-conformances, corrective, and preventative actions.

  • Ensures the necessary assistance and support for special functions, special interest events, and projects.

  • Assists in general housekeeping of common areas and work area/center.

  • Performs additional duties assigned in accordance with contractual, functional, and mission requirements and/or as directed by the Base-Wide Support Department Manager.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:

  • High School/GED

  • Bachelors Degree Required and would need to also meet the attached Air Force Education Services Series 1740 requirements.

  • Experience:

  • Two (2) years in the adult education and/or education counseling areas.

  • Other Requirements:

  • Ability to type 25 words per minute

  • Desired Qualifications

  • Experience:

  • Knowledge of military education and training personnel systems and procedures.

  • Skills and Technology Used:

  • Detail oriented, capable of multitasking

  • Software:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Programs (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and Outlook)
