ProMedica Health System Nurse Manager - Obstetrics / Women's Services - Full Time - Days in Monroe, Michigan

The Nurse Manager of Women's Services will provide leadership oversight over two of our north region ProMedica locations: Monroe Regional Hospital and Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital.

The position will split their time equally between the two hospitals. They will provide 24-hour accountability for the day-to-day management and leadership of Maternal-Newborn Services at these two locations.

Other duties include, but are not limited to:

Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients / clients served (i.e.: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric). Directs activities of assigned staff in accordance with the system’s values, policies, and objectives. Determines the organization of department and staffing requirements. Selects, trains, supervises, develops, appraises performance, initiates and recommends salary changes, promotions, discharge, and all other personnel actions. Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety standards Coordinates the development and preparation of department operating and capital budgets. Monitors adherence to budgets and, when necessary, determines the reason for the variance and develops a plan to resolve the variance. Regularly reports on budgetary performance as requested. Manages the day-to-day operations of designated departments/facilities to ensure the provision of safe, cost effective, goal directed, and patient centered nursing care. Assesses the functioning status of those departments with peers, staff, and other customers and plans activities to assure effective functioning. Develops, secures approval of, implements, and monitors a departmental Quality Improvement Plan. Recommends, secures approval for, implements, and follows up on corrective action.Ensures departmental activities are in compliance with hospital standards, health and safety policies and procedures, governmental and other regulatory agencies as appropriate.

Education: Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing with a BSN or Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to health care

Skills: Must be able to facilitate multi-disciplinary work groups. Demonstrates nursing, budgetary, written, and verbal communication skills. Must have intermediate to advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements and performance improvement activities. Must be skilled in the art of negotiation and compromise. Must be open to new ideas, with a demonstrated ability to think flexibly and respond to critical situations involving patients, personnel, and visitors in a professional manner. Must have ability to understand the variability of work in planning and problem solving. Must be able to understand the interaction between systems, variability learning, and human behavior. Must be able to understand people and why they behave as they do. Must be able to deal effectively with a changing environment and be open to new ideas. Demonstrates sound clinical skills and judgment. Must be able to use a computer, with the ability to compile statistics. Must be able to communicate with medical staff families, and patients both in person and via phone. Must be able to interview others.

Years of Experience: 3-5 years in specific nursing unit with progressive management and leadership responsibility

License: Current Michigan licensure as a Registered Nurse

Certification: BCLS certification.
