Job ID359783 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyEducation-General Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9754 Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job This will be a 100% time, 12-month appointment Position This position contributes to teaching and outreach efforts for the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems and Plant Science Major. The position develops and delivers high-quality undergraduate instruction. This position reports to the department head of the Department of Horticultural Science. Responsibilities (80%) Classroom Instruction and Course Management: Teach undergraduate courses and labs: FDSY 4101: Holistic Approaches to Improving Food Systems Sustainability, HORT 3131/5131: Student Organic Farm Planning, Growing, and Marketing, HORT 1001: Plant Propagation, and other courses as assigned. * Foster an active, innovative, and inclusive learning environment. * Engage students, offer regular feedback, and inspire students to achieve course learning outcomes. * Supervise undergraduate teaching assistant. * Curate and develop course materials * Create assessments that support the learning objectives for the course and effectively evaluate learning and student progress * Maintain Canvas site for courses * Communicate regularly with students * Grade assignments and quizzes/exams * Provide encouraging, constructive, and corrective feedback * Meet all classes and other responsibilities as scheduled (15%) Preparation and Management of Laboratory Materials * Preparation and purchase of chemicals and chemical solutions. * Preparing handouts and quizzes. * Purchase of plant supplies and plant maintenance, involving long-term planning for care and replacement of plant stock for course purposes. * Oversight of course greenhouse area and plant materials in coordination with greenhouse managers. (5%) Teaching-related Service Activities and Professional Development * Participate in University workshops related to teaching, classroom technology, diversity and inclusion, and other related topics. * Participation in committee service, oversight of student clubs, course recruitment, participation in departmental initiatives, etc. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications * Master's degree in plant or agricultural sciences, or a related field *Teaching experience Preferred Qualifications * University-level teaching experience Proficient at managing online courses using an LMS such as Canvas * Demonstrated excellence in teaching effectiveness, including evidence of pedagogical innovation or experimentation * Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning community * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively manage project timelines * Experience building and managing websites using Drupal, Wordpress, or other content management systems Benefits Working at the University At the University of Minnesota, you'll find a flexible work environment and supportive colleagues who are interested in lifelong learning.
