Job ID360037 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyHealth Care Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8303CL Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job University of Minnesota Advanced Research and Diagnostic Laboratory serves as a central laboratory to support research studies contracted by the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Technical Lead functions independently in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. A CLS Technical Lead performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. The CLS Technical Lead may be responsible for method development research, instrument correlation, and method validation. The CLS Technical Lead correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. The CLS Technical Lead participates in laboratory performance improvement activities. The CLS Technical Lead collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote appropriate use of laboratory resources. In the absence of a supervisor, a CLS Technical Lead may direct work flow in the daily operation of a laboratory section and provide direction and problem solving skills for laboratory functions Responsibilities: * 60%-Bench: Perform laboratory testing on blood, urine and other body fluids, according to written procedures. Evaluates test results for accuracy and takes appropriate action. Exercises critical thinking to recognize problems and resolves them appropriately. * 40%: Extra responsibilities as assigned by supervisor, examples: o Validating assays o Helping devise project/departmental workflows o Identifying areas for improvement; collaborating with supervisor o Quality control monitoring (beyond the day-to-day) o Training new employees o Ordering and receiving supplies and reagents o Act as a troubleshooting and problem solving resource for instrument, quality control, specimen handling, or other issues. o Assigning proficiency testing (PT), monitoring PT performance o Extra projects outside the scope of daily work: reagent lot crossover studies, verifying new lots of QC or calibrators, laboratory experiments such as specimen stability studies, organizational projects, process improvement plans o Another level of employee supervision/a higher level of authority for the lead. Acts on behalf of supervisor if supervisor is absent Qualifications Qualifications: Required: * BA/BS in Medical Laboratory Science with at least four years of laboratory work experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least eight years. * Must be ASCP certified MLS, MT, or MB. * Excellent attention to details * Proven ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve independently * Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
