Stinson Leonard Street LLP Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Description Summary The Director of Diversity & Inclusion will serve as the trusted advisor to the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer (CDIO), ensuring the successful development and implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, using a metrics-driven approach to measure progress, in alignment with the CDIO's direction and the firm's strategic plan. The incumbent will partner with Firm Leaders and Administrative Departments on integrated firm-wide approaches to DEI, ultimately creating a culture that values different perspectives, recruits and retains the best talent, and supports related client requests. Required Education & Experience College degree and industry certification(s) or training. 5 or more years of progressive expertise in related area required; experience leading company-wide initiatives within a multi-office setting, preferably a professional services firm environment. Experience working with senior leaders and diverse constituent groups to make recommendations or build consensus. In-depth knowledge of DEI fundamentals and concepts, including trends and best practices. 2 or more years of content development, strategic planning, budget planning and implementation, project management, database management, report writing, and/or event planning experience. Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Power Point, Outlook, Excel spreadsheets and Internet resources and researching. Ability to work after hours and travel to other offices and events, as needed. Preferred Education & Experience J.D. preferred. Law Firm experience preferred. Large law firm experience a plus. Develop, Implement, & Support Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiatives (75%) Lead the implementation of firm wide DEI initiatives in accordance with the firm's strategic plan and the direction of the CDIO. Promote and advance DEI initiatives so that they are considered in all critical Firm decisions. Serve as a DEI subject matter expert. Educate, mentor and coach firm constituents on the importance of DEI, how to impacts work functions, and how to further the firm's DEI objectives. Provide support and initiate strategies to expand opportunities for diverse lawyers to work on significant matters for key clients. Build and sustain effective working relationships with: diverse lawyers and business professionals at the firm; individuals and groups at the firm working to advance and support DEI; other diversity professionals and leaders at peer firms, bar groups and other organization; and clients' diversity professionals. Collaborate and help integrate DEI strategies across business stakeholders, including Firm Leadership, Attorney Recruiting, Professional Development, Business Development, Marketing, Human Resources and Well-being. Oversee department efforts with identifying: Opportunities to promote the firm's brand (diversity awards, speaking engagements and other diversity-related recognitions); Opportunities to increase the external visibility of diverse lawyers through speaking engagements, articles, and other related activities; and Diversity awareness and education programs. Oversee diversity-related events and serve as a speaker on DEI topics at internal trainings. Research initiatives and trends in big law DEI and propose recommendations on improvements to the firm's DEI efforts. Provide guidance on best practices for mentoring, retention and promotion of diverse attorneys. Oversee DEI content, communications and materials on the firm's intranet and external sites. Represent the firm at various internal and external functions, including student associations, recruiting events, and other similar functions, serving as a firm spokesperson on DE issues. Measure, Monitor & Report Impact (15%) Create and implement a system for regular monitoring and sharing of progress on key DEI metrics that incorporates qualitative and quantitative data. Develop and maintain the department's project roster and perform related project management duties. Supervise the preparation and review of diversity surveys, client questionnaires, and requests for diversity information in RFI/RFPs and client pitches. Establish strategic priorities and objectives in the development of the overall diversity budget, including return on investment models. Regularly analyze firm metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement and present such analysis to the CDIO. Conduct periodic internal assessments. Prepare and deliver diversity, equity and inclusion reports, presentations, updates and other documents associated with DEI strategies, projects, programs, or policies as needed. Audit policies and practices related to diversity, harassment prevention, disability access, and other equity and inclusion issues. General and Administrative (10%) Supervise and develop the Senior Manager of Diversity & Inclusion. Help manage the DEI team, including hiring, training, development, and oversight of the essential job functions. Performs other duties as assigned.
