WASATCH FRONT WASTE & RECYCLING DISTRICT Equipment Operator in MIDVALE, Utah

JOB SUMMARY

Collects residential and special waste by operating a variety of specialized equipment and working in teams. Provides safe, efficient, and effective collection activities throughout the District.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One year of truck driving experience, with at least six (6) months experience driving or operating equipment which requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with valid DOT Medical Card at the time of hire.

·         Safely drives and operates a variety of refuse collection equipment on residential and city streets and highways to collect refuse, recycling, and special waste.

·         Completes all required pre- and post-shift inspections and ensures equipment is clean and in proper working condition.

·         Loads, compacts, transports, and unloads refuse at designated facilities.

·         Follows a complicated map; ensures all listed streets are collected and residents receive excellent customer service.

·         Keeps loads within legal limits and follows all applicable laws and regulations.

·         Functions as a member of several teams and is required to work in multiple programs doing a wide variety of activities.

·         Ensures open and complete communication occurs throughout the day to keep team members and lead operators apprised of progress, problems, and other issues.

·         Recommends service improvements to provide quality, seamless customer service.

·         Regular attendance to daily clear refuse and recycling from assigned routes.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires a full range of motion in the shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, legs, and feet. Must be able to push, pull, or lift up to 100 pounds as necessary to ensure route is complete and free of debris. Must exhibit manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Must drive and sit for extended periods while exposed to traffic hazards, inclement weather, noise, dust, fumes, grease, and potentially unsanitary conditions; the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory. Must climb into and out of equipment on a regular basis.

The work week consists of four 10-hour days with a varying day off each week. This position is subject to being called to work prior to or after the scheduled shift.
