Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) has an opening in our Construction Services Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.

Summary

The QC Manager is a key role, responsible for managing, coordinating, and scheduling all QC technicians and Projects for FDOT and FDOT Specification Projects. Physical Demands & Work Environment :

· Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation

· The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation

· The testing process for the various construction materials (i.e., soils, concrete, asphalt, etc.) is repetitive in nature several times per hour

· The technician’s primary duty is to test soil densities and concrete samples (air, temperature, mix design, etc.), as well as testing other construction materials. Testing these samples requires extensive manual lifting and handling.

· Weights in the 0-75-lbs. range are lifted frequently (From 33% up to 66% of the task period) with a frequency range 10 – 35 repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation

· Weights in the range of 35 – 75+ lbs. (concrete cylinders and soils) are lifted frequently (From 15% to 30% of the task period) with a range of 5 - 15 repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation

· Construction materials are manually lifted and carried distances on average ranging from a few feet to 75 feet, but may occasionally exceed 75 ft in walking distance and are unloaded manually at our lab and carried inside for testing, with or without reasonable accommodation

· On average the workdays range from 7 - 12 hours

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform QC Manager duties per FDOT 105 specification.

  • Compile logbooks, QC plans, and job guide schedules

  • Provide project management on Contractor Quality Control FDOT projects, including delegation of tasks to Asst. QC Manager, budget review, and communication with contractors.

  • Provide problem solving and resolution on project issues.

  • Manage and oversee 15-20 CQC certified staff, including employee management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions, as required.

  • Timesheet review, annual employee reviews, and commutation with technicians regarding performance, oversee class signups for additional certifications, repayment agreements, check requests, as well as productivity, invoicing, and reporting

  • Create proposals and work orders for all DOT projects that arise.

  • Identify safety concerns on project sites.

  • Review and train staff on Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for general information and specific projects

  • Maximizes long and short-term profits for Testing Lab & Construction Services Department.

  • Quotes costs and fees to clients; prepares proposals and reports.

  • Coordinates personnel and equipment within the branch

  • Turn in required paperwork daily

  • Regular attendance is required

  • Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs. Overnight and weekends schedules may be necessary to support business needs

  • Follow all company safety procedures and policies

  • Other duties may be assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)

  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).

  • Nuclear Radiation Safety Certificate

  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I

  • FDOT CTQP Concrete Level I & II

  • FDOT CTQP Earthwork Level I & II

  • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.

  • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports.

  • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or related field

  • Engineering Intern (EI) license

  • FDOT CTQP QC Manager

  • FDOT CTQP Pile Driving

  • FDOT CTQP Drilled Shaft

  • FDOT CTQP Asphalt Paving Level I & II

  • FDOT CTQP Auger Cast Pile Inspector

  • ACI Self-Consolidating Concrete Testing Technician

  • ACI Concrete Transportation Testing Inspector (CTCI)
