Carnival Cruise Line Entertainment Professional Development Manager in Miami, Florida

Job Description

The Manager – Entertainment Professional Development will be the key point of contact within Carnival Cruise Line's Entertainment Department for managing entertainment professional training and development initiatives. This position will play a crucial role in identifying skill gaps and designing comprehensive training programs for rehearsals, onstage/backstage performance, and entertainment shipboard operations. This individual will develop and maintain training manuals, plan departmental conferences, and ensure consistency in training practices across various entertainment roles including but not limited to: Technical (Lighting, Audio, Automation, LES, Backstage, Broadcast), Performance (Vocal, Music, Dance) and Entertainment Operations (Entertainment Experience, Youth Staff, Marketing & Revenue). They will collaborate with the Hotel Operations Training Manager in the development and execution of training per CCL training governance procedures and work closely with L&D COE/HR to develop and maintain Entertainment Professional Development Records (PDR). This position will monitor the effectiveness of professional training programs, making necessary adjustments and improvements based on feedback. A background in theatre/music performance or entertainment technical experience is preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Liaise with all departments within Entertainment including Technical (Lighting, Audio, Automation, LES, Backstage, Broadcast), Performance (Vocal, Music, Dance) and Entertainment Operations (Entertainment Experience, Youth Staff, Marketing & Revenue) to develop and update Entertainment specific trainings for shoreside rehearsals at Carnival Studios, onstage/backstage performance, and entertainment shipboard operations in collaboration with subject matter experts. Conduct comprehensive training needs assessments to identify skill gaps and training requirements. Evaluate current entertainment specific training for shoreside supervisors and leads to standardize training at Carnival Studios and other shoreside locations. Collaborate with entertainment department heads and stakeholders to establish training goals, objectives, and metrics to measure training effectiveness.

  • Partner closely with CCL’s L&D COE/HR teams to develop and maintain Entertainment Professional Development Records (PDRs.) Act as the Entertainment SME and direct point of contact for all entertainment positions to ensure that the PDRs are current and aligned with the company’s competency framework. They will monitor PDR completion and ensure that professional development pathways remain equitable, relevant and supported.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of entertainment training activities, attendance, and training outcomes. Collaborate closely with the L&D/HR to integrate entertainment training programs with performance management and career development initiatives. They will follow any established framework and guidelines established by CCL Training Governance and/or HR professional development policies.

  • Organize and manage departmental town halls and training conferences for the Shoreside Entertainment Team and Fleet Supervisors, including but not limited to identifying guest speakers, tracking budgets, and managing logistics.

  • Partner closely with Shipboard talent and engagement teams on any talent development related initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Entertainment, Recreation, Tourism, Hospitality, Organizational Development required

  • Master's Degree preferred

  • 5+ years’ experience in entertainment with experience in managing professional development

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience in performing or creative development a plus.

  • Organization skills; ability to set priorities and meet challenging deadlines.

  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.

  • Flexibility, team orientation, with the ability and willingness to learn.

  • Experience in training and development.

  • Must possess excellent analytical skills

  • Able to analyze and resolve issues independently

  • Strong teaching and facilitation skills, ability to assess training needs and objectives, comprehensive knowledge of curriculum within training plans

  • Knowledge of Carnival's entertainment program and operations.

  • Ability to explain the "how and why” efficiently and effectively.

  • Creative thinker and solutions oriented, a self-starter with a high level of initiative.

  • Interpersonal skills, ability to give and receive constructive feedback, ability to interact and partner with people at all levels.

  • Ability and willingness to learn, multi-task, and manage multiple projects at one time.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular movement throughout CCL facilities. May need to stand for long periods of time.

Travel: Less than 25% ship and shore-based travel

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

The range for this role’s base salary is $75,900 - $102,000. Offers to selected candidates will be made on a fair and equitable basis, taking into account specific job-related skills and experience.
