The SCCC Associate Scientist supports the University’s research goals and objectives by performing laboratory experiments in his/her areas of interest, expertise, or assignment. Moreover, the incumbent performs various analytical procedures involving method development and application development and synthesis.

Department Specific Functions

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Cell Biology, have developed a range of skills in cancer research, and be able to work in an interdisciplinary environment towards the goal of performing cellular, biochemical assays required for pathway analysis and proven strong track record of productivity, as evidenced by first-authored publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals with 2–3-year research experience post-degree. The candidate should have specific experience in molecular biology/biochemistry, cell culture techniques including glioblastoma patient-derived organoids, functional genomics (including CRISPR, shRNA, and cDNA library use), and mouse handling. Moreover, design and execute the cell-based experiments, optimize compound selection, mechanistically define compound targets for selection of lead candidate molecules, which can transition into clinical development. Knowledge of processing cell/tissue for translational studies (immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry) and background in image-based assays having experience in the usage of high-end optical microscopes like spinning disk confocal and knowledge in image processing and analysis (e. g. using ImageJ/FIJI and cell profiler) and completes mathematical calculations to assist in data analysis is desirable.

  1. Contributes to basic and applied research activities including authorship of scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations.2. Publishes in refereed journals in collaboration with department leadership or independently. 3. Supervises research employees and non-exempt staff.4. Writes extramural proposals with approval of senior managing staff.5. Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results.6. Works with other researchers to use and develop end products.7. Provides ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researchers, supervisors, and other relevant staff.8. Requests or acquires equipment and supplies for assigned project(s).9. Applies for grants to continue research and prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations.10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
