Idaho State Police - Meridian, Idaho

The Bureau of Criminal Identification is seeking to fill a Technical Records Specialist 1 position in their Sex Offender Registry Unit. This position provides a variety of records support functions; reviews and processes documents; determines and explains compliance with laws, rules, regulations and policies and takes appropriate action; maintains a manual or computerized records system; performs related work.

PLEASE NOTE: The successful applicant will be required to complete a background investigation and polygraph examination, which includes drug screening. Applicants that have anyone living in their household, or an immediate family member that has ever been on any Sex Offender Registry, are disqualified from this position.

Example of Duties:

  • Update offender information in the Idaho Central Sex Offender Registry database

  • Conduct in-depth research of criminal records and legal documents relating to offender duty to register and registry compliance

  • Review and verify all incoming documents received by the state of Idaho for convicted sex offenders

  • Respond to customers regarding policies, procedures, and Idaho Code

  • Research a variety of sources for verification and proper determination

  • Research statutes from other states and make determinations as to equivalency to Idaho's statutes

  • Write detailed documentation justifying equivalency determinations

  • Apply the law as it relates to sex offenders and assist with interpreting criminal history records

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Experience:

  • Monitoring a records system to identify and correct errors

  • Researching a variety of sources to resolve problems

  • Interpreting, explaining and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments

  • Entering and retrieving data using a computerized records system

  • Using word processing software to create and modify documents

    Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience working in a law enforcement agency entering Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR), National Incident Based Reporting Systems (NIBRS), or National Crime Information Center (NCIC) data into computer based systems

  • Experience working with sensitive or restricted data

  • Ability to type 40 words per minute
