Position Overview

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory’s Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) Division has an exciting opportunity for a results-driven and detail-oriented Environmental Program Coordinator. As a member of our ES&H safety team, you will be responsible for providing a broad range of support to our Chemical & Waste Management Department with limited supervision. Members of this team are responsible for providing services to the chemical and hazardous waste management programs for the Laboratory. This position reports to the Chemical & Waste Management Department Head.

Your specific responsibilities include:

  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.

  • Manage the Waste Management Information Technology program and ensures that the Waste Tracking System (WTS) is current, accurate, and in compliance with regulations and state-of-the-art information-storage technology. Serves as the primary IT driver for delivering enhancements and new functionality to the WTS.

  • Manage daily hazardous waste pick-ups and hazardous waste shipments including the collection, review, and update of data required for storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous, Class II regulated and Universal wastes.

  • Sustain environmental compliance and maintains a comprehensive knowledge of all existing and proposed changes in Federal, State and Local environmental regulations that could impact waste management programs and practices and communicate those impacts to management.

  • Prepare and delivers regulatory waste management reports and fees to ensure compliance with all hazardous waste regulations.

  • Serve as a SLAC Technical Representative and/or Point of Contact (POC) for various Waste Management contracts.

  • Aids the Chemical & Waste Management (CWM) Department Head to meet group, departmental objectives and mission statement of the ES&H Division.

  • Applie ISEMS and WP&C to all waste management activities.

  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.

  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function.

  • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. May also represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.

  • Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences.

  • May participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.

  • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.

The expected pay range for this position is $69,100 - $120,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
