Nexus Facilities Technician in Mendota Heights, Minnesota

Description Nexus Family Healing is seeking a full-time Facilities Technician to care for the county shelter, Aspen House based in Mendota Heights, Minnesota and servicing the area. This is made possible through a collaboration between Dakota and Washington counties. The innovative program will not only provide temporary housing with a 12-bed unit for youth but also incorporate mental health services. Position Summary: The Facilities Technician I is responsible for maintaining the appearance, structure and safety of the Agency's grounds, vehicles and overall cleanliness and presentation. This position will perform grounds, vehicle, machine, equipment and general facility maintenance tasks while taking ownership and accountability for the building's safety and appearance. Grounds Maintenance Inspects building structure, perimeter and property for safety concerns, hazards or opportunities; documents observations and notifies supervisor of inspection results. Maintains the overall appearance and upkeep of Agency grounds including lawn and shrubbery; rakes leaves, shovels snow and performs other landscaping duties that ensure the properties' appearance is presentable. Proactively and regularly completes work orders and related reports within facilities and housekeeping area of responsibility; submits to supervisor for approval or follow-up as needed. Secures the building at the close of each work day; follows the closing check list to ensure the building is, safe, secure and compliant. Vehicle Maintenance Performs basic automotive maintenance on Agency vehicles including, replacing wiper blades, tire repair/replacement and rotation, and ensuring proper fluid levels are maintained on all vehicles. Ensures vehicles are checked for routine and performance maintenance needs; schedules appointments with automotive mechanic/dealership as needed. Maintains a log of when vehicles due for preventative maintenance checks and ensures routine services schedules are followed; records all maintenance repairs when completed on each vehicle. Monitors vehicle storage and coordinates cleaning of vehicles. Equipment & Furniture Maintenance Identifies furniture in need of repair and restoration; repairs and refinishes furniture as needed. Moves and reorganizes furniture and according to leadership direction and operational needs. Maintains on-site storage areas ensuring spaces are well organized, safe and code compliant. Facility Construction and Repair Projects Plans, prepares and facilitates carpet, painting, linoleum or installation projects; proactively works with Clinical Director to ensure projects are prioritized by urgency and importance. Performs repairs to building/Agency heating system, broken faucets, sinks, water heater and air conditioner. Identifies problems in emergency power and generator systems in the fire alarm systems through routine inspection, documents and reports concerns to supervisor. Troubleshoots various equipment to assess malfunction and proposes solution and action plan to resolve. Maintains accountability and high caliber of work quality and follow through on each project. Facility Policy, Procedure & Safety Regulations Maintains the Agency's integrity, adherence and documentation with Federal, State and Local ordinances surrounding fire and safety rules and regulations; proactively brings safety concerns to Clinical Director. Responsible for developing, documenting and adhering to facilities and housekeeping policy and proce ures; trains all Agency staff on safety policy and procedure including fire and tornado drills. Provides routine cleaning and maintenance in public and common areas of the facility. Adheres to all Nexus specific, and Federal, state and local safety requirements; assesses and notifies leadership of facility safety violations and takes measures to mitigate risk and exposure. Observes and adheres to the facilities general, chemical and machine safety guidelines, at all times. Facility Cleaning and Supplies Maintains adequate stock of cleaning supplies and materials; restocks solutions and supplies as needed. Keeps supervisor informed of supplies and materials needed. Assures the distribution of cleaning supplies to staff and residents and ensures restrooms are stocked with necessary supplies at all times. Maintains a list of equipment necessary to perform all areas of the Facilities and Housekeeping responsibilities. Documents products purchased for the department. Maintains resident and family privacy and confidentiality regarding background checks, treatment and activities. Required Education and Licensure: High School Diploma or GED 2+ years' experience in building maintenance, construction or a related 'trade' skill required. 2+ years proven work experience in two or more of the following areas: Plumbing, woodworking, electrical work, vehicle maintenance and/or landscaping. Ability to meet 'Life Safety Codes'. Valid Driver's License; Must meet state driving requirements and pass Nexus Home Office insurance eligibility standards. Preferred Education and Experience: 4+ years' experience in building maintenance, construction or 'trade' skill. 2+ years proven work experience in all of the following areas: Plumbing, woodworking, electrical work, vehicle maintenance and/or landscaping.
