DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Assistant Religious Services Administrator, you will assist with managing the Religious and Volunteer Programs offered to inmates within the DOC.  This position conducts research regarding the basic tenets and practices of the religions with which inmates seek to be accommodated by the department, in addition to providing direction to institution personnel regarding the appropriateness of inmates' religious requests.  You will participate in policy and procedural development, regulating all aspects of religious programs and volunteer groups accommodated and approved to meet and practice within the department's facilities.  You will also be responsible for ensuring that Chaplaincy Program Directors, correctional chaplains, and contracted chaplains maintain active clergy credentials.  This is an opportunity to ensure that inmate grievances, inmate correspondence, and correspondence from community citizens concerning religious and volunteer matters are effectively addressed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 37.5 hours/week. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. The selected applicant may request alternative work hours for the Monday through Friday schedule, provided it meets operational needs. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time.  Telework options may be discussed further during the interview process.  In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.  If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mechanicsburg. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as a Chaplain (Commonwealth title); or Three years of professional pastoral experience that includes one year in an institutional or specialized setting and a bachelor's degree; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional pastoral experience in an institutional or specialized setting. Special Requirements: All candidates are required, at the time of application, to provide documentation from an officially sanctioned faith group dated within one year of the application date stating they are officially sanctioned or authorized to conduct worship/sacred services, and specifying which sacraments, rites, ceremonies, or rituals they are authorized to perform as a religious leader. All employees in the Department of Corrections must complete the Correctional Chaplains Training Course within six months of hire. All employees in the Department of Corrections must maintain their credentials with an officially sanctioned faith group on an annual basis for the duration of employment. You must possess one unit of clinical pastoral education or an equivalent specialized training.
