GENERAL FUNCTION

The Systems Architect is responsible for leading the architectural design, analysis, configuration, testing and implementation for large & complex systems. This role is the lead person supporting the day-to-day technical activities of team members, along with project requests. The individual leverages new and existing technology in solutions that add value to the business as well as architect and manage the integration of complex systems across all functional areas of IT for EyeMed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads conversations to understand requirements; analyzes information and determines possible solutions

  • Maintains extensive knowledge of applications and systems that comprise a web-facing and claims processing environment

  • Prepares and executes tasks outlined in a formal project plan and reports progress against the plan

  • Leads technical oriented projects to conclusion

  • Technical Lead of large and complex upgrades of systems and software tools

  • Develops experienced based work effort estimates to project teams

  • Acts as lead architect on the design and construction of large systems

  • Act in a lead role by helping to manage the day-to-day activities of the Dev/Ops team with assistance from their manager

  • Serves as an expert in the solutions and tools that comprise the departments technical platforms

  • Identifies opportunities where the use of technology or tools can move the business forward and sells the ideas to the appropriate decision makers

  • Acts as a technical advisor to the EyeMed IT department

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in Information Systems

  • 4+ years’ experience on assigned technical platforms or systems

  • Experience in application architecture and understanding of Java

  • Strong understanding of software development life cycle, project management, business process management requirements definition, functional design, quality management, and change management

  • Technical knowledge of development tools, platforms, and languages

  • Strong understanding of web-application solutions like Apache, JBOSS, and Tomcat

  • SQL or Oracle DB experience

  • Experience with a scripting language

  • Experience working with cloud-based technologies

  • Works effectively within a team structure and has good oral and written communication skills

  • Able to effectively communicate technical concepts with technical and non-technical team members and users

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Industry experience related to insurance

  • Ability to build strategic relationships across the organization to achieve business goals

  • Experience moving from monolithic environments to cloud-based technologies

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements.
