Machinist (Inside/Outside) - Qualified Pay - $53.03

Pay and Benefits:

  • Employees with journeyman electrical work experience who are qualified can start at $53.03. The maximum rate for the position is $56.75 with demonstrated qualification/proficiency after being hired. Annual increases are scheduled.

  • Over-time Opportunities Available as Desired.

  • Annual salary without over-time is over $110,000 a year minimum.

  • Annual Bonus plan that applies to all annual eligible earnings with a target of 6% - 12% of your annual income. ($6,600 - $13,200)

  • 401k plan with Company match of 7% on 6% employee contribution. (Minimum - $7,700)

  • Cash balance pension plan of 7%/9%/11% depending on age and years of service. (Minimum - $7,700)

  • Paid vacation, sick and holidays - 3 weeks of vacation, 7 sick days and 10 paid holiday.

    Job Summary:

Marathon’s Martinez Renewable Fuels Facility, in Martinez, CA is currently looking for an experienced Machinist (Inside/Outside). Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman, the Machinist will support the operation of the facility through proper maintenance of rotating equipment and mechanical systems. They will be responsible for the troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and installation of the machinery and mechanical components throughout the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use of various tools and equipment to effectively troubleshoot, diagnose issues, and assess machinery performance.

  • Perform machinery maintenance, both in the field and in the shop, consisting of the removal, disassembly, inspection, repair, and installation of rotating equipment that has failed or is operating outside of design parameters.

  • Ensure that equipment is safely prepared for Maintenance and all documents are in order prior to starting work.

  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe and environmentally compliant manner, adhering to site Health and Safety processes and Environmental regulations.

  • Perform work per applicable technical standards and specifications (Marathon, Industry, or Manufacturer).

  • Execute preventive maintenance activities as part of our Mechanical Integrity Program.

  • Able to read and understand mechanical seal prints and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

  • Responsible for safely operating various types of mobile equipment, including forklifts, fixed cab cranes, and aerial lifts.

  • Complete all required documentation (repair forms, inspection sheets, etc.) in a detailed and timely manner.

  • Able to work alone or as a team to accomplish work efficiently and to high quality standards.

  • Effective verbal/written communication and reporting on as-found and as-left condition of equipment.

  • Expected to train on Inside Machinist skills, including the setup and operation of more advanced shop equipment (horizontal lathe, vertical mill, etc.) to fabricate parts needed to maintain/repair equipment in-house.

    Education, Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.

  • Must have completion of a recognized Millwright or Machinist apprenticeship program or trade school or two years of verifiable journeyman level millwright or machinist work experience.

  • Must be able to use hand/power tools, precision measuring tools, basic shop equipment, and other tools of the trade.

  • Must have previous experience and knowledge in the troubleshooting, repair, and installation of machinery. This includes lubrication, bearings, couplings, shaft alignment, centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, pump packing, mechanical seals, fans, pully/sheave alignment, gearboxes, steam turbines, and valves.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the facility and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

  • Must obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

  • Must be able to support irregular or extended work hours and call-out situations when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in a refining, petrochemical, or other related industry preferred.

  • Centrifugal compressor and reciprocating compressor experience preferred.

  • Machining experience preferred, but not required.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and SAP preferred.
