Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Five years of experience in earthworks construction.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To supervise inspections, maintenance and improvement activities of an extensive levee and drainage system.

Level of Work:

Manager.

Supervision Received:

Broad direction from unclassified agency administrators.

Supervision Exercised:

Direct line over a Levee Maintenance Superintendent.

Location of Work:

Levee Districts, Statewide.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from other levee maintenance jobs by responsibility for all work involved in maintenance of levees and providing adequate drainage for an extensive levee district.

Examples of Work

Plans and directs maintenance of an extensive levee and drainage system.

Assigns crews to maintenance and repairs of levees, drainage ditches and construction activities on or about levees such as bridges, locks, fences, etc.

Secures rights-of-way for levee or drainage ditches; confers with landowners and others to establish dollar evaluations of rights- of-way.

Reviews requests for permits to place installations on or over levees and advises Levee Board of effect of installation of flood control or drainage.

Supervises inspection of levees to insure proper upkeep and repairs.

Determines and recommends materials and equipment necessary for the overall operation of levee board projects.

Prepares reports on various aspects of the continuing levee maintenance and construction program for presentation to the Levee Board commissioners.

Prepares a proposed maintenance budget for submission to agency administrators.

Directs monthly safety meeting.
