Vanguard Head of Enterprise Data & Model Governance in Malvern, Pennsylvania

The Data Defense Office is a newly formed organization within CDAO that will allow Vanguard to:

  • Find and understand our data better.

  • Effectively manage how we use sensitive data both with suppliers and inside Vanguard.

  • Drive improved data anonymization and classification to reduce risk.

  • Be prepared for data & privacy regulations.

  • Enable quicker time to insights, with the right level of controls and access in place.

We will focus on enabling an automated, sustainable process throughout the entire data management lifecycle.

As part of the Data Defense Office in CDAO, the Head of Enterprise Data & Model Governance will be responsible for improving enterprise-wide data & model governance policies and procedures including but not limited to Gen AI, Models, Data and Compliance. This role is responsible for the continued development of Vanguard’s governance frameworks, while infusing accountability across the enterprise to those high standards. You will partner with technical and domain specific experts across the organization to stand up processes and frameworks aimed at reducing risk and improving our overall data defense posture.

The mission of the Data Defense Office is to protect our client's most valuable asset - our data. You will play a pivotable role in that mission by setting and executing the data governance strategy, while guiding the recommendation, development, implementation and monitoring of data & model governance programs across Vanguard. You are responsible for leading, managing, and developing the teams who will execute these extremely critical functions for Vanguard.

Core Responsibilities

  • Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.

  • Leads the data & model governance function for the enterprise. Develops and oversees domain strategies and oversees initiatives within data & model governance. Develops and ensures the execution of data governance strategies . Leads and oversees the integration of deliverables enterprise wide .

  • Develops and oversees implementation of controls for data & model governance programs and resolves elevated issues. Oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of data & model governance program tools and templates, and ensures data integrity and availability.

  • Reviews metrics to ensure the success of data & model governance programs and adjusts the overall governance strategy as needed. Oversees the domain metrics and overall program progress and effectiveness. Manages the development of solutions to business, project, and program issues. Implements solutions on data governance initiatives to further advance program goals and objectives .

  • Establishes and maintains strategic business and stakeholder relationships to ensure ongoing communication, process, and technology integration. Anticipates business needs and ensures client satisfaction enterprise wide .

  • Continually develops expert understanding of industry trends in data governance and provide s updates to the team to build business acumen. Champions change management efforts and ensures implementation of data & model governance practices. Provides subject matter expertise to distribute knowledge and awareness of data & model governance program initiatives and goals throughout the enterprise.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten years of related work experience preferably in data/mode governance, audit, or related functions .

  • Minimum of five years people leadership experience required .

  • Experience standing up new programs and frameworks at a n enterprise scale , preferably with shared accountability .

  • Experience in risk and regulat ory landscape required .

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required .
