The Opportunity

For Manulife’s Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) to remain competitive and Future fit, we need to intentionally commit to and embrace Innovation. As such the newly created ETS Innovation and Emerging team's ambition is to unlock growth opportunities with an emphasize on radical innovations.

The Innovation Architect focuses on forging strong business relations and partnership with key internal stakeholders, acting as an important enabler. Externally, the role interacts with strategic partners, and works towards building a strong ecosystem with vendors, and startups focused on Emerging Tech and innovation. Reporting to the Head of ETS Innovation & Emerging Tech, the Innovation Architect will work closely with both governance and technical leadership to ensure project completion and successful delivery of all initiatives.

Role description:

In this key role, you will be working closely with the Head of ETS Innovation and Emerging Tech to evaluate and recommend technology investments that contribute to ETS Business and Innovation goals.

  • Maintain and expand knowledge of research and innovation and current technology through exposure to research institutions, vendor community and strategic partners.

  • Explore new sources of information to help uncover new business opportunities at all levels of the business (strategic to operational) with focus on Emerging Technologies.

  • Maintain and expand knowledge of AI and technology trends through training opportunities.

  • Analyze data, conduct market research, and collaborate with teams to drive Innovation.

  • Organize and support Innovation events (Hackathons, Technology show) and support and guidance during technical Assessments (PoC, Pilot).

  • Work in an agile environment and contribute to the improvement of our innovation processes.

  • Collaborate across business units to help develop and execute on innovation projects that will lead to sustainable growth of the business.

  • This role is highly visible requiring the ability to work with and influence senior stakeholders externally and internally.

What you need to be successful:

  • Graduate (Preferably Postgraduate) degree and research experience from a technical discipline, preferably engineering or computer science with 5+ years of solid network and connections focused on industry R&D and adoption of AI, modern Infrastructure, and related technologies.

  • Strong capacity to learn and communicate new concepts and technology quickly and clearly.

  • Solid understanding of software and infrastructure architecture and ability to deliver mandate with great autonomy – self-driven.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders and diverse, cross-functional teams/vendors to develop appropriate requirements and scope.

  • Experience in organizing and hosting design thinking workshops and events.

  • Ability to build relationships and work across multiple business units to drive project execution to completion.

  • Experience or Good knowledge of the following is highly desirable: AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, DevX, Modern Infrastructure, Cloud (Azure, Ali Cloud, AWS), Cybersecurity, etc. Relevant certifications are a nice-to-have.

  • Coding experience is not required but nice to have.
