The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

MULTI-HIRE OPPORTUNITY.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as a Human Services Worker II – OPS (Transportation) at the Northeast Florida State Hospital. T his position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • The incumbent of this position is assigned to the Transportation Department. Duties include driving staff escorted mental health patients in state issued vans and cars to and from appointments on and off hospital grounds.

  • Northeast Florida State Hospital transporters are expected to provide professional services to the patients we serve and be courteous to our internal and external partners. In addition to driving, transporters will physically assist patients as needed, deliver legal documents, and assist with luggage. Transporters will also be responsible to deliver confidential documents and medication.

  • This position requires at a minimum valid Class E driver's license.

  • Other Personal Services (OPS) employment is a temporary employer/employee relationship that is used solely for the completion of short-term or intermittent tasks. The position will perform all job tasks in accordance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, and requirements applicable to state and federal laws or procedures.

  • The work schedule for this position is Monday- Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the methods of instructing and providing care to others.

  • Ability to understand and apply the methods and practices used in medical, psychiatric, nursing or child care or in working with developmentally disabled persons.

  • Ability to take and monitor vital signs.

  • Ability to administer routine treatments under medical supervision.

  • Ability to read.

  • Ability to pay attention to details.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to carry out instructions for implementing prescribed treatment plans including behavior modification activities.

  • Ability to instruct others in basic self-care skills.

  • Ability to instruct others in recreational activities.

  • Ability to provide instruction and personal guidance and care to clients.

  • Ability to prepare charts and records.

  • Ability to prepare instructional materials.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of experience working in a medical, psychiatric, nursing or child care setting, or in working with developmentally disabled persons.

  • College or vocational/technical training from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for the required experience.

  • May be required to work additional mandatory hours, which might include working on a scheduled day off.

  • Class E driver’s license.
